Phil Foden has tried his best to explain how Erling Haaland’s brain works, with the young winger honoured to share a pitch with the scoring sensation.
Haaland has been in incredible form since making the move from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester City in the summer, scoring 42 goals from his 37 matches.
He has 28 goals from his 26 Premier League games, as well as netting 10 goals in the Champions League, three in the FA Cup and one in the League Cup.
Foden amazed by Haaland heroics
Such phenomenal feats have blown away his Man City teammate Foden, with the young winger explaining that it is a “pleasure” to play alongside the Norwegian.
Foden himself has enjoyed another fine individual campaign, scoring 13 goals and creating six others in all competitions, but it is Haaland that has been the star of the show.
And while the England international has attempted to get inside the mind of the Norwegian, he admits that he isn’t exactly sure how Haaland continues to thrive.
A perfect example arises from the latest FA Cup meeting with Burnley, with Haaland completing yet another hat-trick by firing in a rebound following Foden hitting the post.
“It’s a pleasure, I don’t know how he does it,” said Foden, as quoted by LiveScore. “The one that I hit off the post, he always seems to be in the right place, expecting things, little ricochets, and things like that.
“The way his brain works, he always seems to be in the right place to finish the ball, and to play with a player like that it’s always a massive boost for us because when it’s a tight game and it’s 0-0, there’s not a lot of chances, we’ve been relying on him to get us a goal and it’s a real pleasure to play with him.”
Haaland helping Foden thrive
It isn’t just the striker who is reaping the rewards, with the likes of fellow attackers Foden, Riyad Mahrez and Jack Grealish all benefitting from the forward’s remarkable feats. And despite plenty of criticism from many within the game, Haaland has, of course, helped City become stronger.
They do, however, remain behind Arsenal in the Premier League table. But then again, City are flying high in the last eight of the Champions League and the last four of the FA Cup.
Foden believes this is only the beginning for Haaland and City, with the club set to become even stronger in the near future with their star striker leading the line.
“He’s helped us in a way of finding a different way to play,” added Foden. “In previous years we didn’t really have a striker, and now he’s here we’ve adapted a little bit, and we’re even still getting used to him now, so it’s good for the team, and it’s only going to help us in the future.
“It makes my job easier being an attacking player and looking at someone that wants to score goals and is always ready and in the box it makes it a lot easier.”
