As Newcastle United looks to build under Eddie Howe, rumours are swirling about a possible move for Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar. The mercurial Brazilian will add star power and unmatched quality on the pitch but his addition can also cause unnecessary disruptions at Saint James Park.
Fans would relish seeing the 31-year-old in Tyneside as he seems to be on his way out of Parc des Princes. Parisians chanted “Neymar get out” outside his home last week, adding fuel to speculation of a summer move.

Very few clubs in the world can afford Neymar’s services. With Mike Ashley far away from St James Park and the current ownership backed by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, the Toons will relish seeing the Brazilian ace amidst them.
Neymar to Newcastle: A Circus in the Making
Barcelona did not appreciate Neymar’s antics at Camp Nou and details about his party lifestyle emerged once he had departed Catalonia. PSG have not been able to keep wraps on the Brazilian’s off-the-field activities, revealing the long leash he has been given at Parc des Princes.
As the speculations increase, Gary Neville is getting excited at the prospect of seeing Neymar regularly. However, he warned that the 31-year-old does not fit Eddie Howe’s philosophy with the Magpies. And he will be disrupting the dressing room more than adding value on the pitch.
“Neymar is a sensational player but I think Eddie Howe all of a sudden would sort of have a circus – Eddie Howe doesn’t need a circus up here. You think about what Newcastle are at this moment in time, they’re building, they’ve got foundations.
“What you don’t want to do is basically go and disrupt that. Fans are really behind the team they’re behind the manager, there’s a sort of a spirit building.”

Star signing down the road
With Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham struggling, Newcastle have filled the gap at the top of the points table. Although the Reds are hot on their heels for the Champions League spots, it is the Magpies who should return to the elite European club football for the first time in 20 years.
Neville believes they will need a star signing like Neymar in the future to boost their club profile but not is not the time for such an addition. Footballing demands will increase at St James Park next season and the club will be well-advised to make four additions to reinforce them in key areas.
“They’re going to need to do it at some point, go for those big name signings, and they’re going to need to make that jump and Eddie’s going to need to be brave at a point and say ‘yeah let’s go for it’.
“But if there is a 25 or 26-year-old worth £100million, that player is probably likely to go to another club in Europe at this moment in time. You might end up getting offered a 32-year-old at that sort of money and Eddie might think ‘no’.
“I think three, maybe four really good additions to this squad and have another season where they get into the Champions League potentially, or challenge for the Champions League and challenge for a trophy, is the right approach. Don’t go from being measured and all of a sudden think ‘we’ve got there’ and just blow everything that you’ve done and the principles you’ve done so far.”
