Netherlands vs Argentina: Betting odds and tips

On Friday night, the Netherlands play Argentina in the second quarter-final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup at the Lusail Stadium. The game is expected to be enjoyed by millions of people all over the world as Lionel Messi continues his mission to top off his remarkable career with the World Cup trophy. With the game expected to be an even contest, there are many different betting markets that are providing punters with excellent value. Let’s take a look.

To qualify

The main bet for this game is going to the “to qualify” market. As the game is so close to call, you’d be a brave person to back the match being settled in 90 minutes. Instead, hedge your bets and go for the qualification bet as this will cover you if your chosen team wins the tie in extra time or on penalties.

With Ladbrokes, you can get odds of 6/5 for the Netherlands to win the tie and progress through to the semi-finals, while Argentina are favourites at 3/5. Interestingly, neither side are odds on to win the game in 90 minutes meaning you are able to more than double your money through betting on either side to get the job done in normal time.

First goalscorer

As we’ve already mentioned, a cagey affair is expected so the first goalscorer may even end up being the only goalscorer. Gakpo is the Netherlands’ top goalscorer in the tournament so far and outside of him and Memphis Depay they don’t look like a team with many goals elsewhere in the team. With Ladbrokes, Gakpo is 6/1 to be the game’s first scorer and Depay is 11/2.

Argentina arguably have more potential goalscorers in their team but the main man, Lionel Messi, is unsurprisingly the nation’s top scorer at the 2022 World Cup and the most likely to break the deadlock here. Manchester City’s Julien Alvarez is also an excellent finisher so he could also be worth a go. Messi is the 7/2 favourite while Alvarez is 11/2.

#GetAPrice – Messi

Speaking of the main man, Ladbrokes are offering a special market dedicated to the little magician for this game. Some of the most eye-catching bets relating to Messi on Ladbrokes are as follows:

  • Messi to score and assist – 15/2
  • Messi to score in both halves – 16/1
  • Messi first goalscorer, last goalscorer, and to have an assist – 100/1

The best bet within this section for us, though, Messi to score outside of the box at 7/1. He has done it already in the tournament with the opening goal against Mexico in the group stages and is a maestro when it comes to free kicks.

Win from behind

This World Cup has been full of shocks, thrills and spills but it still feels like we are missing a spectacular comeback win. Sure, Japan coming from a goal down to beat Spain was impressive, but Spain weren’t really playing for anything. A comeback win here would be special and it’s impossible to rule out.

If you fancy the Netherlands coming from behind to win then you can get it at 18/1 with Ladbrokes, while Argentina doing the same is 12/1.
