PSG midfielder Marco Verratti has signed a two-year contract extension with the Ligue 1 outfit.
The Italian, who as noted by PSG is the most successful player in the history of the French Championship, is now contracted to the club until 30 June 2026.
Verratti joined the Ligue 1 outfit from Delfino Pescara in July 2012, having just lifted the Serie B title in his native country. The midfielder became an immediate hit in the French capital, making 39 appearances in his debut season.
He now has 398 appearances for PSG, and is the second most capped player in their history, behind the 435 of Jean-Marc Pilorget.
The 30-year-old has, however, won the most trophies for PSG. He has 29 trophies to his name, including 8 French league titles, six Coupe de France successes, six Coupe de la Ligue successes, and nine Trophées des Champions victories.

Verratti, who has 11 goals and 48 assists for his club, is now in his 11th campaign with PSG.
The midfielder expressed his pride at extending his stay in his ‘second home,’ and is looking forward to increasing his trophy count there over the coming years.
“It gives me great pride to extend my contract with Paris Saint-Germain,” said Verratti. “I arrived in Paris more than 10 years ago, in this city that I consider my second home.
“I have always received a lot of support from the club and the fans since I started and I am very grateful for that.
“It was obvious to me that my story would continue to be written here. I hope to win many more trophies in the Rouge & Bleu shirt.”
Verratti ‘one of the best players of his generation’
Internationally, Verratti lifted the Euro 2020 trophy last summer for Italy, alongside PSG teammate Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Making his debut for the Italian national team in 2012, he now has 51 appearances to his name.
PSG Chairman and CEO Nasser Al-Khelaïfi also expressed his delight at the deal, saying: “We are so pleased to see Marco Verratti continue his incredible career at Paris Saint-Germain.
“Marco has been such a central figure in shaping the story and success of Paris Saint-Germain over the past 10 years, while being one of the best players of his generation.
“Marco’s renewal is testament to the continued growth and high ambitions of our club – and is fantastic news for Paris Saint-Germain and our fans.”
PSG icons returning to action
PSG were well represented at the 2022 World Cup, but Verratti did not make an appearance in Qatar given the fact Italy failed to qualify for the major tournament.
The likes of Neymar and Marquinhos were, however, in action for Brazil, who were knocked out on penalties by Croatia in the quarter-final.
The former saw red in the club’s most recent Ligue 1 fixture against Strasbourg on Wednesday, with the latter finding the back of the net in the 2-1 win.
World Cup finalist Kylian Mbappe meanwhile netted a 96th-minute penalty to clinch all three points for the Paris-based club, with World Cup winner Lionel Messi expected to return at the turn of the New Year.
