Media personality Piers Morgan believes Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag should beg for forgiveness if Arsenal take home the Premier League title at the end of this season.
Morgan’s comments come in relation to the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo, who departed the club after the World Cup due to conflict with Man United’s new boss.
Ten Hag had largely dropped the superstar footballer to the bench by the time the World Cup came around and Ronaldo took to an interview with Piers Morgan to air his frustration with how his move to the club from Juventus had panned out.
The shocking interview also saw Ronaldo, who Morgan had interviewed previously, take aim at United’s owners the Glazers, the club’s young players as well as management. Following the interview Ronaldo and mutually agreed to end their relationship and the Portuguese star has now joined Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
Since a poor start to the season under the Dutch boss, the Red Devils have put quite a run of form together, culminating in their 2-1 Manchester Derby victory over rivals Man City at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The side now find themselves in fourth place in the league, just a single point behind City in second and eight points off league leaders Arsenal, who they play on Sunday.
Morgan, who is an outspoken Arsenal fan, told talkSport that despite talk of United’s good form, he does not think that the Manchester side will overtake Arsenal to clinch the league title this season.
Morgan Criticizes United’s Treatment of Ronaldo
The TalkTV presenter has backed the Gunners to defeat United on Sunday at the Emirates Stadium.
“Why don’t you come back and ask me at 6.30pm on Sunday and see how cocky they’re all feeling at United then?,” Morgan told the station when asked if United were an improved side without Ronaldo.
“I’ve been watching it all,” he said, “They’ve been beating a few teams and they had a good result against City.”
“Let’s not get the bunting out just yet, I think we’re going to absolutely demolish them on Sunday and then at that moment I will remind them that they managed to lever out the greatest footballer in history because they thought that was a great idea,” Morgan stated.
“The other question I would ask is will any of this brilliant new United team score as many goals for United this season as Ronaldo did for them last season?” he added.
Morgan’s Rant Against Ten Hag
If Manchester United were to win on Sunday, they could close the gap to the top spot to six points, provided they beat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Wednesday.
Morgan, however, believes that Ten Hag should beg for forgiveness following the exit of Ronaldo under his watch.
“When we win the league and when United do not win the league because they got rid of the GOAT, I expect Erik ten Hag to get on bended knee beg me for forgiveness and apologize to Cristiano Ronaldo for the shocking disrespect that he showed him,” Morgan stated.
