Man United Move for Kane Reported to Likely Break English Record

Manchester United believe they will have to pay Tottenham Hotspur £100 million up front to acquire Harry Kane this summer, according to new reports.

Kane has emerged as one of the prospective targets for the Red Devils in their pursuit of a high-profile striker for the 2023–24 season.

Following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo last winter, the side brought in Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley.

Weghorst is likely to depart back to his parent club in the summer and Antony Martial is also linked to a move, which would leave the club with no real center forward options except for Marcus Rashford.

The England international has 18 months remaining on his current contract and expects to discuss his future with the club at the conclusion of the current campaign.

Tottenham’s elimination from the FA Cup and Champions League earlier this month means that Kane, who has yet to win a major trophy in his career, will conclude another season without any hardware.

The Times reports that Manchester United believes Tottenham would require an upfront payment of £100 million if they were to consider selling their most treasured asset.

It is believed Tottenham’s position is intended to deter potential bidders, as clubs often pay transfer costs in installments.

Spurs are convinced that their asking price will enable them to retain Kane for a second season.

However, a recent report suggested that Manchester United are prepared to make the Englishman the most expensive British player of all time, which would require the Red Devils to outbid Manchester City’s £100 million payment for Jack Grealish in 2021.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also interested, with the latter still hunting for a successor for Robert Lewandowski.

Kane Eager to Stay in Premier League

Kane’s prospects of reaching Alan Shearer’s record of 260 Premier League goals would be diminished by a move abroad, hence the 29-year-old is eager to remain in England.

Although Spurs risk Kane going on a free transfer in 2024, they are satisfied with him entering the last year of his current contract.

Before Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Southampton, Conte expressed confidence that Kane would remain with the club if it finished in the top four.

The Italian could be fired in the coming days after his explosive post-match press conference on Saturday, in which he verbally attacked the Tottenham side.

Spurs are in fourth place, but they have played two more games than Newcastle United, who is two points behind in fifth.

This season, Kane has scored 23 goals in 39 appearances for Tottenham, and he is presently with the England group as they prepare for Thursday’s Euro 2024 qualifying match against Italy.

Whether Kane leaves his club or not may depend upon who the head coach is ahead of the next Premier League season. Antonio Conte has become increasingly likely to be sacked before the season’s end as his side struggle for resuts.

Reports indicate that the Italian manager has lost the dressing room at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and read that Mauricio Pochettino is increasingly likely to return as manager at the club.

This could encourage Kane to stay though if he does not sign a new contract then he could well be sold by his club.
