Manchester United have undertaken “internal talks” regarding a prospective summer transfer move for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, according to the latest reports.
During the 2022-23 season, the 24-year-old has taken his game to new heights for club and nation, impressing for both Brighton and Argentina.
Mac Allister was one of the tournament’s breakout performers with the 2022 World Cup victors Argentina, with a goal in the group stage and an assist in the final in six appearances in Qatar.
The midfielder has also established himself as a crucial player for Brighton this season, scoring eight goals in 23 games in all competitions to help Roberto De Zerbi’s side push for a top-six Premier League finish.
Man United and Arsenal are rumored to have joined Manchester City, Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and Juventus in the pursuit of Mac Allister’s signature.
New Report Links Man United with Mac Allister Move
CaughtOffside reporter Ben Jacobs recently reported that Manchester United have discussed a summer transfer swoop for Mac Allister.
However, the side will face stiff competition from the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea, who are also investigating the potential of pulling the Argentine away from the Amex Stadium.
It was reported that Mac Allister’s objective is to regularly play in the Champions League and suggests that the midfielder may cost more than £60 million.
Mac Allister joined Brighton from Argentinos Juniors for about €8m (£6.9m) in January 2019 and has since made 95 total appearances, scoring 16 goals and tallying seven assists across all competitions.
Mac Allister in ‘No Hurry’ to Depart Brighton
The midfielder is under contract at the Amex Stadium until June 2025, and earlier this year he stated that he is “in no hurry” to quit the club.
“I feel really good with this club and my teammates, and everyone who works here,” Mac Allister told BBC Radio Sussex following his World Cup victory.
“I try not to read too much. I always say I am really happy here and I don’t have any rush to leave. I am focused on the next game with this club.”
Yet, according to Mac Allister’s father and agency, there are “chances” that might see the midfielder depart Brighton this summer.
“For now he is in Brighton. It seems to me a very good thing that he has returned from the World Cup and has not despaired of leaving,” Carlos Mac Allister told TyCSports.
“He is enjoying success calmly and in peace in a team that loves him very much. The reception he received has been for the better. He is very happy at the club,” he said.
“We all know that in July there will be chances to leave. But prior to the World Cup, Alexis renewed his contract so that the club also has the opportunity to make a big sale, so that many can reach out to Brighton,” he added, “That’s the idea.”
Moises Caicedo, a teammate of Mac Allister’s at Brighton, has also been connected with a move to a club that will pay him a significant amount of money this summer, despite the fact that he just last week signed new terms on a deal that will keep him at Brighton until 2027.
