Arsenal finished second last season and are up against the champions of Europe and England in 2023’s Community Shield clash. The community shield does attract a lot of views as it is the traditional curtain raiser to the new season. Manchester City lost last year’s Community Shield to Liverpool and will certainly look to make sure they take the Shield to the blue side of Manchester this year. Let’s look at how both the sides may line up.

The game is scheduled for Sunday, 6th of August. The curtain raiser will return to being held at Wembley and the kick-off time is 16:00 GMT instead of the usual 17:30 GMT.

Arsenal’s signings this season have been on the smarter side and include defensive stalwart Jurrien Timber from Ajax for a hefty £40 Million. The majority of eyeballs will surely be more focused on the midfield partnership of club record signing Declan Rice and Champions League winner, Kai Havertz. The latter of whom will link up with ex-Chelsea star Jorginho. Havertz should play on the left midfield linking up with Jesus and Trossard, as he did in preseason. Last season, the Gunners were led by young star Bukayo Saka and a rejuvenated Gabriel Jesus, who was snapped up by the gunners. The latter of them is unfit for Sunday’s game and Saka was reportedly ill last time match but is still expected to feature.

Arsenal’s Predicted Lineup (4-3-3)

Ramsdale – Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Tierney – Odegaard, Rice, Havertz – Saka, Martinelli, Trossard.

Manchester City Predicted Lineup: Will Haaland and Rodri lift the Shield Again?

Manchester City have also been busy in the transfer market, but not in the way Arsenal have been. They are in the middle a mass exodus of midfielders where they lost Riyad Mahrez, Ilkay Gundogan and are on the verge of losing Bernardo Silva to either of Barcelona, PSG or Al Hilal. They have brought in the likes of Mateo Kovacic and Joao Cancelo to repair their midfield and were able to bring to in Josko Gvardio to reinforce their defence.

Manchester City’s lineup is much more difficult to predict, as there are many players who are on the verge of leaving the club and Pep is known to not involve players who aren’t happy at the team. Even in preseason, they rotated their squad continuously to ensure that the other players integrate well with the squad.

Predicted Lineups (4-2-3-1)

Ederson – Walker, Stones, Dias, Cancelo – Rodri, Kovacic –  Alvarez, Silva, Grealish  – Haaland
