Two of the biggest clubs in English football are set to play each other for the 118th time in their respective histories on Saturday as Liverpool take on Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.
Liverpool have not had the best of seasons by their recent high standards and are lingering in 8th place in the Premier League table. The Reds did enjoy a spectacular performance last time out, however, and have not yet given up on finishing inside the top four. To do so they would surely have to win all of their remaining fixtures, starting with Forest on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the away side are fighting for their lives at the bottom of the table. They are currently enduring a nine-game winless run in the league and speculation is growing about the future of manager, Steve Cooper.
Let’s take a look at the head-to-head record between the two sides ahead of tomorrow’s pivotal clash.
Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest: Overall Head to Head Record
Liverpool first played Nottingham Forest way back in 1895 when the Reds ran out 5-0 winners at Anfield. Since then, the two clubs have gone on to enjoy plenty of success on the pitch and have eight European Cups between them.
Out of the 117 fixtures, Liverpool have won 57 of them while Nottingham Forest have won 31. There have been 29 draws in total in games between the two sides with the most recent one coming back in 1999.
Despite the clubs playing each other 117 times over the years, there was a 23-year period without a match between Liverpool and Forest between 1999 and 2022. During that time, Nottingham Forest were stuck in the Championship and the two clubs avoided each other in all domestic cup draws.
Ironically, the year the sides finally did get drawn to play each other in the FA Cup was 2022, the year Forest finally regained their Premier League status.

Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest: What Happened Last Time
The last time the two teams played against each other was earlier in this season at the City Ground. It was the first Premier League game between the two sides in 23 years and Nottingham Forest ran out as surprise 1-0 winners thanks to a goal from Taiwo Awoniyi in the 55th minute.
The match, which took place in October, was arguably the high point of Forest’s season and was seen as the final nail in Liverpool’s title aspirations. In a season of several dismal showings away from home, the performance at the City Ground by the Reds was particularly abject with them barely threatening Dean Henderson’s goal until the dying minutes of the match.
This time around, Liverpool will be hoping that the match can provide them with a springboard to end the season on a high after a campaign that will certainly end with no trophies and likely end with the prospect of no Champions League football next season.
