Manchester United travel to Anfield on Sunday in what is always a monumental fixture. While Liverpool are currently experiencing the end of one era, Manchester United are showing signs that they are entering a new one after winning their first trophy in six years last weekend.
Despite a difficult season, and with all hopes of silverware diminished, Liverpool have been showing signs of resilience in recent weeks. They have won three of their last four Premier League matches and have kept a clean sheet in each one, perhaps showing that Jurgen Klopp is focusing on bringing defensive stability back to his side.
Manchester United, on the other hand, are riding a wave of momentum that has seen them lose just one game in 20 since football resumed after the World Cup. This form has left them entering March in a position where they could still end up with four trophies at the end of the season. A win for United would leave them eight points behind Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table.

Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp has had to face fresh injury problems on a regular basis this season but he will be buoyed by the fact that this isn’t the case this week. Although the match has come too soon for Thiago and Luis Diaz, Klopp has all of his other key players fit.
Darwin Nunez, who has endured some niggles in recent weeks, is expected to play alongside Cody Gakpo and Mo Salah in the Liverpool attacking three. Diogo Jota, who has been out for much of the season with a hamstring injury, is likely to offer a threat off the bench although it wouldn’t be a total surprise if he started ahead of Gakpo.
The defence picks itself with everyone fit – van Dijk and Konate will be in the centre and Alexander-Arnold and Robertson will start at full-back. This means the only decision left for Klopp to make is around who he plays in midfield. Stefan Bajčetić and Fabinho have been regulars in recent weeks and you’d expect that to stay the same. Jordan Henderson will likely take the third spot as club captain.
Jurgen Klopp on Man United:
“I can imagine how annoying it was for the last few years when we were there and everyone was talking about ‘Klopp did this and Klopp is doing that’.
“Outstanding. And they are bringing in young players’.
“It is really ‘ugh’.” #mufc #lfc pic.twitter.com/uObhCpWZPU

Manchester United
Erik Ten Hag rotated his team heavily in midweek for the FA Cup game against West Ham but he did need to bring some of his big guns off the bench to secure the victory. Bruno Fernandes and Antony were the only two outfield players who started that game who are likely to start the game at Anfield as Ten Hag tries to navigate his squad through a hectic fixture list.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been in fine form since the World Cup and will likely get the nod over Diogo Dalot while Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw will make up the rest of the back four.
Casemiro will start in midfield alongside Fred and Bruno Fernandes while Marcus Rashford and Antony are likely to play either side of Wout Weghorst up top. Although the Dutchman hasn’t been scoring for fun since signing for the Red Devils in January, his link-up play and work ethic has been of huge benefit to them.
