Liverpool have an “active interest” in Leicester City player James Maddison ahead of the summer transfer window.
The 26-year-contract old’s expires in the summer of 2024, and he is in no hurry to sign a new deal at the King Power Stadium.
According to soccer outlet Football Insider, the Reds are optimistic that they can sign the English international.
Liverpool Likely to Move for Maddison this Summer
The Premier League side are reported to be monitoring Maddison’s situation and will compete for his signature if he does not sign a new contract with Leicester.
The Merseysiders are poised to undergo a significant midfield overhaul this summer and are already laying the groundwork for prospective moves.
In recent weeks, Leicester has increased its attempts to renew Maddison’s contract and has even awarded him the captaincy in an attempt to convince him to commit his future to the club.
Yet, it is believed that the Foxes will not hesitate to sell the England international this summer if they determine that a new contract is not possible.
It is reported that a cost between £60 and £70 million is expected to be sufficient to pry Maddison away from the club where he has spent the last five years since signing from Norwich City.
The England international is a key target for Newcastle United and Tottenham this summer, although Man City has also been linked with a move for him.
Leicester has a habit of receiving top price for their most valuable players.
Harry Maguire, Ben Chillwell and Wesley Fofana joined Manchester United and Chelsea for a total of £80 million in 2019, £50 million in 2020, and £70 million in 2022, respectively.
Maddison is an attacking midfielder who can play in a variety of positions, including behind the primary striker, on the flanks, and even in deeper positions, although he rarely drops back towards the middle of the field.
In 20 outings across all competitions, he has scored nine goals and provided five assists, with all 14 goal contributions coming in the Premier League.
Liverpool Beaten by Rivals to Ecudorian Wonderkid
According to the most recent reports surrounding Liverpool’s summer recruitment strategy, it also looks that Chelsea beat the Reds to the signing of promising teenage midfielder Kendry Paez.
The 15-year-old was also coveted by Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, and Borussia Dortmund, three of Europe’s most prestigious clubs.
It was reported earlier this week that Chelsea have reached an agreement in principle to recruit Ecuadorian sensation Paez after accepting a £20 million offer.
The Stamford Bridge club has reached an agreement with Independiente del Valle on a transfer fee for the promising youngster.
It is estimated that the midfielder might cost the Blues approximately £20 million, with any possible sum rising based on his achievements through his 18th birthday.
The adolescent is one of the most sought-after young footballers in the world, but he cannot join Chelsea until he reaches 18 in 2025.
According to sources familiar with the case, the Londoners are certain that Paez would play international football in the future, which would make obtaining a visa easier.
Despite his youth, he is currently a member of Independiente’s first team.
On Saturday (25 February), he became the youngest-ever player in the Ecuadorian Serie A and scored a goal to lead his team to a 3-1 victory over Mushuc Runa.
