Mohamed Salah is the “greediest striker” that Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has come across.
As per BBC Sport, the former Liverpool player and manager was full of praise for the Egyptian, who netted twice in Sunday’s 7-0 humiliation of fierce rivals Manchester United.
The goals from the Liverpool icon saw Salah become the club’s all-time leading Premier League goal scorer, with the winger overtaking Reds legend Robbie Fowler at the top of the list. Salah now has 129 Premier League goals for the Merseyside outfit, with Fowler having netted 128.
Salah labelled the ‘greediest striker’ by Souness
After a miserable run of form, Liverpool are now back in contention for the Champions League places, winning four of their last five league matches. Key to that success has been a strict defence and a fiery attack, with Liverpool scoring 13 goals in that time and not conceding any.
The likes of Gakpo, Jota, Firmino and Nunez have all been on the pitch and chipping in with goals and assists in recent times, but it was Salah who has now garnered most of the attention having broken the club’s scoring record.
“He’s been fantastic for this club,” said Souness. “He’s the greediest striker I have come across, but all top strikers are. A class act.
“The hardest thing is to get a goal scorer and he is a natural. I am sure he is great to work with and when you have players like that in your dressing room, you have a great chance.”
Salah ‘one of the best attackers’ in PL history
Souness wasn’t the only pundit and indeed ex-Liverpool player to laud Salah with praise, with former defender Jamie Carragher also in awe of the winger.
Salah’s attacking teammates Gakpo and Nunez also scored braces in the 7-0 victory, but it is unsurprisingly the Egyptian who has rightly been handed many of the headlines due to his phenomenal feats in red.
Salah has netted against 26 different Premier League clubs, with the attacker scoring more league goals against Man Utd than any other club. His 10 strikes against the Red Devils take him past former captain Gerrard, who netted eight against the club’s fierce rivals.
The outstanding winger has 11 goals for the current Premier League season, along with seven assists. His tally in all competitions this season now stands at 22 goals and 11 assists.
In his wider Liverpool career, Salah now has 178 goals in all competitions, placing him seventh on the club’s all-time scoring list, behind legendary figures Fowler, Gerrard, Billy Liddell, Gordon Hodgson, Roger Hunt and Ian Rush.
Such form has hugely impressed Carragher, who has never once doubted one of the “best attacking players” in the history of the Premier League.
“I never worry about Salah,” said Carragher. “Now and again he goes a few games without scoring, but he is a great goal scorer.
“He comes alive in big games, with that pace and energy. He has been a revelation and one of the best attacking players we have ever seen in the Premier League.”
An extraordinary day for all Liverpool fans. I’m honoured to keep making history with this great club! pic.twitter.com/aRR2n5Ss8l
