Liverpool legend praises ‘great servant’ Mohamed Salah after Premier League goals record

Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish has praised Mohamed Salah for being a “great servant” to the club following his record-breaking strike against Manchester United.

Egyptian forward Salah scored his 129th Premier League goal in Sunday’s 7-0 victory over the Red Devils, becoming the club’s record scorer in the competition.

He overtook Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler at the top of the all-time list, with another Reds legend in Dalglish hoping that the goals from Salah continue long into the future.

Mohamed Salah a ‘great servant’ to Liverpool

While Dalglish was quick to point out the importance of the entire team, he did, of course, leave time for a special mention of Salah.

The winger has now netted 22 goals from his 37 matches in all competitions this season in what has been another superb individual campaign. He also has 11 assists to his name.

Salah has been one of the best players in world football since making the switch from Roma to Anfield in June 2017, with the attacker now on 178 goals from his 291 games.

It’s been a frustrating season overall for Jurgen Klopp’s men, but Salah and indeed the Reds seem close to being back to the phenomenal levels they have achieved in recent years.

Liverpool legend Dalglish has put the return of form down to the entire team, but also highlighted the superb feat from Salah in his latest analysis of his former club.

“Every achievement by any individual should never be undermined or overlooked,” said Dalglish, as reported by the Liverpool website. “It’s a fantastic achievement and he’s done it in a short space of time, shorter than maybe Robbie did.

“The most important thing is the individual awards are brilliant but you can’t beat the team awards. Within the success of the team, there’s always individuals [who] make contributions.

“A goal at one end, it’s equally as important that Alisson saves another one at the other end, or the defender kicks one off the line. So, everybody’s got their part to play.

“Without everybody performing for the team, there’s no way that you’re going to be successful just by scoring goals. But you also have to be successful in not letting in goals. But it’s fantastic for Mo, [he’s] been a great servant to the club and long may it continue.”

Liverpool legend thrilled with Man Utd thrashing

Like every other person connected with Liverpool, Dalglish was overjoyed at the club’s recent thrashing of their fierce rivals. The Reds were ruthless at Anfield on Sunday, with attackers Darwin Nunez (2), Cody Gakpo (2) and Roberto Firmino joining Salah on the scoresheet.

While Liverpool legend Dalglish was delighted with the result, he is keeping his feet firmly on the ground and not letting the result go to his head.

“I think the most important thing for the 7-0 is everybody’s enjoyed it and had a few days to enjoy it,” added Dalglish. “We’ve got to settle down and look forward to the other games, because they’re equally as important as what the Manchester United game was.

“They’re not going to judge us by how the first team did against Man United – we’re going to disappoint somebody I think!”
