Youri Tielemans has confirmed via an extensive Instagram post that he will be leaving Leicester City following the club’s Premier League relegation last weekend.
The Belgium international penned a statement that was accompanied by an emotional video of one his finest moments playing for the Foxes.
“Dear Leicester City fans, after 4.5 special years and with a lot of gratitude I’m bidding farewell to this incredible club,” Tielemans said in the post.
Tieleman: ‘I Am Forever Grateful For Your Unwavering Support’
The midfielder went on to thank and show his gratitude for his time at the Foxes.
“From the first day I set foot on this ground, your warmth and passion embraced me,” he continued.
“Victory and triumph, love, hope and even defeat,” Tielemans added, “We’ve shared many special moments together. I am forever grateful for your unwavering support.”
“Thank you to Khun Top, the board, the staff, the players and fans for having given me and my family a home,” he said.
“This is not a goodbye, but a heartfelt farewell.”
Tielemans Destination Unknown As Of Yet
The Belgium international will depart the King Power, where he was once one of the most sought-after midfielders in the Premier League and won an FA Cup.
However, it is yet to be confirmed where the player will go and play next following his Leicester departure.
Tielemans scored a stunning goal against Chelsea under the iconic arch at Wembley in 2021 to give Leicester its first-ever FA Cup victory.
However, much like the rest of the Foxes squad, Tielemans’ performances have endured a sharp decline, and as a result, Leicester were relegated to the Championship last weekend following a heartbreaking final day in the Premier League.
Dean Smith, who was recruited following Brendan Rodgers’ dismissal, was unable to inspire a significant turnaround in form that would have helped Leicester avoid relegation.
Although Tielemans’ departure has been confirmed as the former Anderlecht player’s contract has expired, he is not the only midfielder expected to leave Leicester City this summer.
The general consensus is that Foxes playmaker James Maddison is far too talented to play in the Championship and will therefore depart Leicester in the summer.
Newcastle has been mentioned as a possible destination for the English national.
It is unknown where Tielemans will wind up, as many clubs that were once interested in the midfielder have found replacements and no longer require his services.
Arsenal were keen on signing Tielemans last summer and again in January, but elected against doing so despite being able to acquire the 26-year-old for a reduced transfer fee as his contract was nearing expiration.
Whoever chooses to acquire him will be able to do so without incurring any transfer fee this summer, a deal which many elite clubs will likely consider a great deal.
Along with the likes of Arsenal, there could well be several clubs competing at Champions League level that will join the contest for Tielemans in the coming months.
As things stand, the Belgian footballer is currently estimated to be worth in the region of 30 million euros by player valuation website Transfermarkt.com.
