PSG forward, Kylian Mbappe has revealed that the outcome of his side’s Champions League last 16 tie with Bayern Munich won’t have any impact on his future. The talented 24-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best footballers on the planet and as such, his future is often speculated about.
However, the Frenchman has said that Champions League glory isn’t his priority when mapping out the next few years of his career. Speaking before the game against Bayern Munich, he said:
“If I linked my future to the Champions League, without wishing to show a lack of respect to the club, I would have left a long time ago. I don’t think this match will have an impact. I am here and I am very happy to be here – I am not thinking about anything other than making PSG successful.”
Mbappe’s future
Mbappe was seemingly on the verge of leaving the club for Real Madrid last summer but signed a new contract in Paris at the last minute. However, that hasn’t stopped people from speculating that he could be on the move away from the French capital this year.
He has already won the World Cup and has countless domestic French titles to his name as well. Despite this, there is a feeling that he will have to test himself away from Ligue 1 at some point if he is to be regarded as the best player in world football.
🗣Julian Nagelsmann at the press conference :
“Mbappé will start, that changes a lot of things. PSG have a clear idea with Messi & Mbappé upfront. We have to prevent passes to Messi. But we can't defend everything, Yann Sommer will have a role to play with his saves”#FCBPSG pic.twitter.com/DPFrR3T1ud

The speculation surrounding his future isn’t exclusive to Mbappe. The other two superstars at the club, Neymar and Lionel Messi, have also been linked with moves away although nothing concrete has been agreed upon for any of them as of yet.
The difference between Mbappe and his two teammates, however, is the fact that Neymar and Messi have both tasted success in more difficult leagues and in the Champions League. They both had a wonderful partnership at Barcelona alongside Luis Suarez and have that pedigree in the bank.
Whether Mbappe walks away from his bumper Parisian contract remains to be seen but if he does then his most likely destination will the be Premier League, particularly after he turned his back on Real Madrid at the last minute a year ago. If Manchester United are indeed taken over this summer, then the new owners may well eye Mbappe up as the perfect statement maker to kickstart their new regime.
Mbappe’s current focus
The current focus for Mbappe, and his PSG teammates, is tonight’s huge game at the Allianz Arena. After losing the first leg in Paris 1-0, the French side are going to need to mount a comeback in Germany if they are to make it through to the quarter-finals of the competition. If they can pull it off, then they will fancy their chances of going all the way.
They will have to do it without Neymar, however, who has been ruled out for the season with an ankle injury. It means that the burden will fall on Mbappe and Messi to lead the PSG team to victory, something both men are more than capable of.
