Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told the media that he has no plans to leave the Merseyside club unless he is forced to leave by those in charge.

Klopp’s statement of intent comes as Liverpool are amidst a run of extremely poor form in the English Premier League. The Reds currently sit in ninth position and ten points separates the side from the Champions League places.

Klopp – ‘I Will Not Go’

The Reds endured a humiliating 3-0 defeat to De Zerbi’s Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend, igniting talk of change at the top of the club. Klopp had his say as rumors have spread that the manager is ready to quit management of the men’s team.

“Either the manager’s position changes or a lot of other things change,” Klopp said recently.

“So, as far as I am concerned unless someone tells me I will not go,” the Liverpool boss stated.

“So that means maybe there is a point where we have to change other stuff,” he said,  “We will see that, but that is something for the future. Like summer or whatever. Not now.”

“I have space and time to think about it,” he added, “We have to play better football now.”

Though Liverpool appear to be out of the running for Champions League places with half the season remaining, Klopp appeared to rule out any more signings in the January transfer window after the club already swooped in for PSV’s young Dutch star Cody Gakpo.

Liverpool Need to Get ‘Back to Basics’

Klopp said his side has to get “back to basics,” to improve their form and competitiveness. The German has been accused of being too loyal to some of his players in recent times, an issue he railed against.

“Yes, of course I have heard it. I heard that before and I am not,” said Klopp.

“I am loyal. I think everybody should be loyal, but I am not too loyal,” he explained.

“The problem is too complex,” he said, “You have a good player who did a lot of good things in the past and then in your mind [you think] maybe that’s it for him.”

“If you can then go out and bring in another player to replace [him] that makes sense,” he added, “If you cannot bring anybody in you cannot bring anybody out. That is the situation.”

The Reds have failed to keep a clean sheet since October but insists that his players have stopped listening to his directions as the club have flailed.

“I was not that often in a similar situation, but I know exactly how it works when things don’t go well,” he said.

“There is a list of things you go through and one of the things is the players aren’t listening to the coach any more,” he explained.

“In Germany we say the manager doesn’t reach the team any more,” Klopp said, “So I understand it looks like this sometimes but it is just not the case. You can take that off the list.”

“Everyone feels responsible,” he said, “There is nobody sitting there thinking, ‘I was OK but he wasn’t’. It wasn’t there, I don’t see it, I don’t hear it, it’s not there.”

“If it was here then the player would have a real problem. That is the moment the problems really start.”

Liverpool take on Wolverhampton Wanderers in an FA Cup third round replay on Tuesday evening at Molineux Stadium. There they will be hoping to begin a reversal of their form this season.
