Reds manager Jurgen Klopp accused a reporter of wasting his time with unoriginal questions during Liverpool’s pregame press conference on Friday morning.
In an effort to return his team to winning ways, the Liverpool manager has been preparing his team to face Premier League leaders Arsenal on Sunday at Anfield.
The Reds have not won any of their last five games, with their last two results in the Premier League being a 4-1 loss to Man City and a 0-0 draw against a Chelsea team without a manager on Tuesday night.
Klopp made extensive lineup changes for Liverpool’s match against Chelsea, which prompted reporters to ask him various queries at the press conference Friday.
Klopp: ‘That is A Real Waste of Time’
When questioned whether he made changes because of the loss to Manchester City or simply to manage player workload, Klopp responded with anger.
“We had a game against City, which is an influence physically and performance-wise,” he said, “It is both.”
“How can you expect I give you an answer and say ‘two were because of that and four were because of that. ‘ That is a real waste of time,’ the German said furiously.
“If we win this game, then we will have taken four points out of these games,” Klopp continued, “This would be completely normal for us in the past.”
“Most of the time we drew there,” Klopp said of Stamford Bridge.
“Last season, I sat at home with COVID. We started really well but it was a draw in the end. And losing to Man City was always possible,” he stated.
“I understand from your point of view it’s super difficult to find new questions every week but believe me it’s even more difficult to find new answers,” he added.
Liverpool’s Recent Poor Run of Form Could Be Halted by Returning Trio
Since beating Manchester United 7-0 at the beginning of March, Klopp’s team has succumbed to Bournemouth, Real Madrid, and City without a victory.
Given the return of multiple Liverpool players from injury, Klopp will remain optimistic about obtaining a result against league leaders Arsenal.
Thiago Alcantara was spotted returning to full training on Thursday, and Jurgen Klopp subsequently confirmed the midfielder’s availability in a press conference.
“Virgil [van Dijk] is back in training. Luis [Diaz] and Thiago training completely normal,” the manager reported, ” The plan for Luis is that he will be 100 per cent available for Leeds.”
In addition to Thiago, winger Luis Diaz returned to full training on Thursday.
The Colombian, who joined Liverpool in January 2022, has been out with a persistent knee injury since October.
Diaz was facing Saturday’s opponents when he departed the field during Liverpool’s 3-2 loss at the Emirates Stadium six months ago.
If the pacey winger comes off the bench at Anfield this weekend, he’ll be hoping for a better outcome.
As Liverpool prepare for a final charge at the Premier League’s top four, Diaz and Thiago could be central characters if the club somehow overcome their ten point deficit to fourth place rivals Man United.
