Portuguese striker Joao Felix’ agent Jorge Mendes has made a bid to “accelerate” his player’s exit from Atletico Madrid according to recent reports.

The news comes after Manchester United apparently placed an offer to gain Felix’ services on loan until the end of the season.

New boss Erik ten Hag is determined to secure another forward for the Premier League side after the departure of superstar Cristiano Ronaldo following a controversial interview the Portuguese partook in with Piers Morgan,  which aired just before the World Cup in Qatar.

Mendes Makes Move for Felix

Super-agent Jorge Mendes is reported to have held a 45 minute meeting in Spain with Atleti CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin to try and negotiate an exit for Felix, who is reported to be unhappy at the Madrid-based club.

According to Relovo, Felix has told Mendes “over and over again” about how unhappy he is at Atletico and wishes to leave. The Portuguese striker is reported to have had a fallout with manager Diego Simeone and wants to join Man United.

The striker didn’t make the squad for Atleti’s recent 2-0 Copa del Rey win over Real Oviedo on Wednesday and has made just one start for the club since September as Simeone has favored other players up front.

This is despite the fact that Felix, now 23-years old, joined the club for a record 127.2 million euros in the 2019/20 season from Benfica. Since then he has scored 34 goals in 130 appearances in a defensively setup Simeone side.

Man United have been tracking the situation with Felix for a while and have offered 3.5 million pounds and full wages in order to get the player on loan this January.

Atletico Demand More of Man United

Mendes recent meeting in Madrid was aimed at forcing the move through but their is reported to be issues around Atleti’s valuation of the player, who is contracted until June of 2026.

The elite Spanish side are said to be looking for a fee in the region of 11 million pounds for the striker to go out on loan to the Premier League. United’s move comes after they missed out on Dutch winger Cody Gakpo, who signed for Liverpool in the aftermath of an impressive World Cup finals with the Netherlands.

With limitations on finances after a spending spree in the summer, the Red Devils have preferred to offer a loan deal to Felix to get them to the summer.

“It’s always difficult, strikers are expensive, especially in the winter,” Erik ten Hag told reporters at a press conference last week. “But you have to set the limits high.”

“We’re looking for it, we need to be creative and do everything we have in our power to get the right players in,” he added, “Who are fitting in the balance.”

Manchester United currently sit in fourth position in the English top-flight on 35 points, only behind third place Newcastle on goal difference. They sit four points off Man City in second while Arsenal lead them by nine points at the summit of the Premier League.

Felix could provide the side with a vital goal scoring boost as the Mancunians attempt to secure Champions League football, and maybe more, by the end of this season.
