One of the most iconic venues in world football will host the next fixture in Group C of the European Qualifiers, as Italy host Ukraine at the infamous San Siro. 

It’s the final game of the September international break for the two in contention, with the competition resuming in October, kick off tonight comes at 19:45 for viewers in the UK.

The sides are yet to meet in Group C, with the affair set to be an interesting contest between the two nations.

You’d have to go back to 2018 to revise the last time Italy and Ukraine faced each other, with the match ending in a 1-1 draw in Genoa. 

Luciano Spalletti will be aiming to claim his first win as the manager of the Italian national team, after taking the reins from Roberto Mancini after a spectacular season in charge of Napoli in which he won Serie A.

A win won’t come easy for Spalletti’s side, as they prepare to face a nation in form, with Ukraine remaining unbeaten since their opening game defeat to England back in March.

In terms of injury news, Matteo Politano and Gianluca Mancini have been forced to withdraw from the squad due to picking up injuries, with Bologna ace Riccardo Orsolini called up as a reinforcement. The two players join Federico Chiesa and Lorenzo Pellegrini as the absentees from the team this time around.

Since their opening day defeat, Ukraine have won two games and drawn one, suggesting the challenge they could pose to Italy tonight. 

Defender Nikolai Matvienko was forced to withdraw at half time against England, and as a result is a doubt for tonight’s contest, with Sergiy Kryvstov taking his place after his exit from play.

Some relief has been shed for Chelsea side as the winger has been seen in training since his injury, however there remains a doubt to what extent he will feature against tonight’s opponents. 

It’s been a difficult time for the 22-year-old, who will be desperate to showcase his talents for his country as he continues to adapt at club level.
