Inter Milan predicted lineup vs Benfica: Martinez to add to four-goal haul?

In this Inter Milan predicted lineup vs Benfica, there is a vast array of strong characters who will take nothing less than three points as a positive result from this UEFA Champions League (UCL) matchday two fixture against the Portuguese champions.

It’s also a battle where both sides are still searching for their first win in the group stage. Inter drew 1-1 at Real Sociedad, while Benfica shockingly lost 2-0 at home to Red Bull Salzburg on matchday one.

Inter Milan vs Benfica Champions League team news

Simone Inzaghi has confirmed in his pre-game press conference that Juan Cuadrado has trained and is part of the matchday squad, having missed the last four games through injury. However, Stefano Sensi and Davide Frattesi have been ruled out.

A few first-team regulars were left out for Inter’s 4-0 thrashing of Salernitana on Saturday night, including Lautaro Martinez, who amazingly bagged all four goals after coming off the bench in the second half. The captain will be expected to come back into the starting line-up against Benfica, and we could also see Alessandro Bastoni and Henrikh Mkhitaryan return to the XI, as they started against Real Sociedad on matchday one.

Inter Milan predicted lineup vs Benfica – Our top three

Nicolo Barella – A pivotal player

Inzaghi could go with a more attacking midfield at home to try and blow Benfica away, which means that Barella will have a pivotal role defensively. He started as Inter’s captain against Salernitana in Martinez’s absence, and his leadership in the midfield will be needed.

Barella can also be effective in an attacking sense too, as shown when he scored in both legs as these two sides met in the UCL quarter-finals last season.

Lautaro Martinez – Simply on fire

Martinez has been on fire this campaign and scored four goals in one half for Inter on Saturday. He also netted their equaliser against Real Sociedad on matchday one, and has 10 goals in total already this term.

Unsurprisingly, Martinez is Serie A’s top scorer, and he could have a case for finishing as the UCL’s too if Inter can reach the final like last season.

Marcus Thuram – Pushing to start

Thuram will be pushing to start alongside Martinez having been left on the bench against Real Sociedad on matchday one. The striker has started every Serie A match this term, scoring twice and providing a remarkable six assists, and is certainly someone Martinez thrives playing with.

He provided two of the Argentine’s goals against Salernitana, and will be one Benfica will have to keep a firm eye on.

Inter Milan predicted lineup vs Benfica – The Final Word

Inter will be desperate to win here after not picking up three points against Sociedad in the previous matchday. The 2022/23 finalists will feel that they are favourites to win the group, and so cannot afford too many dropped points early on.

If they are to seal victory, there is no doubt that Martinez is likely to have a say, and he certainly looks unstoppable at the moment. Nonetheless, expect Inter to have too much for Benfica at the San Siro, and Martinez to get on the scoresheet once more.
