Khephren Thuram has been urged to remain at current club OGC Nice for the sake of his footballing development, despite increasing links with a move to Liverpool.
Due to the departures of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is eager to bolster his midfield options for the upcoming season.
It is believed that Liverpool’s new sporting director, Jorg Schmadtke, is working closely with Klopp to oversee any incoming players as soon as possible before preseason training begins.
German Schmadtke’s appointment was verified on Tuesday morning, following the departure of Julian Ward, and he has been tasked with ensuring the Reds have a successful summer in preparation for a stellar start to the upcoming season.
Thuram is a priority target for Liverpool, according to L’Equipe, but the 22-year-old has been warned against a transfer to Anfield in the coming months.
Thuram Must Stay At Nice ‘To Continue His Progress’
Didier Digard, his manager at Nice, praised Thuram’s work ethic but cautioned against an imminent departure from Allianz Riviera.
“Khephren’s fantastic,” the Nice boss told RMC Sport.
“He’s very hardworking, very attentive,” the manager added, “On rest days he’s at the training centre. He recovers quickly for back-to-back matches and completes high-intensity training.”
“He listens and applies himself. He has room for improvement and he’s in demand.”
“He simply eats up video analysis, additional sessions. He also advises others, because he takes on a leadership role. He’s also discovering himself as a person.”
“He’s already in the France team, but I’m convinced that he’ll have a very big career. But there must still be a little bit in Nice to go to continue his progress.”
Thuram began his professional career at Monaco before moving to Nice in 2019. Since then, he has made more than 100 appearances for the southern France club over the past four seasons, establishing himself as a fan favorite.
Consequently, Thuram’s 2022–2023 campaign was by far his most successful, as the midfielder earned a position in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year alongside superstars such as the Paris Saint-Germain duo Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi.
Mac Allister Signing The Priority For Liverpool
Regarding Liverpool’s pursuit of the Frenchman, any deal is anticipated to be finalized after the Reds hope to have completed a £70 million deal for Alexis Mac Allister, the Brighton star and Argentine World Cup winner.
The failure to qualify for the Champions League as a result of this season’s fifth-place finish appears to have instilled a sense of urgency in the Anfield hierarchy regarding their summer business.
The Reds will strive to complete as many deals as possible early in the summer so that Klopp and the Liverpool management team can embed new arrivals in the team’s system and style of play so that they can start next season in good stead.
