Germany take on France on Tuesday night at Signal Iduna Park in what will be the home side’s first match since the dismissal of Hansi Flick. As the hosts of Euro 2024, Germany are exclusively playing in friendly matches at the moment while France are already on the verge of qualification after a faultless campaign to date. The match is set to kick off at 20:00 UK time.

Germany vs France predicted lineups and news

After the 4-1 defeat to Japan, Hansi Flick was relieved of his duties as Germany boss. As a result, Rudi Voller will take temporary charge of the team for this one while the ever-present Didier Deschamps will be in the French dugout. Although the clash is only a friendly, it will allow both sides to see how they match up to another European powerhouse.

Team news: Germany

Hansi Flick may not be the only person on the chopping block after the humiliating 4-1 defeat to Japan with temporary boss, Rudi Voller, expected to make wholesale changes to the starting lineup. One man who certainly won’t be playing, however, is Jamal Musiala who pulled out of the squad last week due to a back complaint.

As one of Germany’s most creative players, Musiala was a big miss against Japan and his absence will surely be felt again when they take on France. Leroy Sane could be the only forward to retain his place in the starting lineup with Schade and Muller potentially coming into the team to replace Gnabry and Havertz.

Havertz may still retain his place in the team, but if he does then a move to midfield is likely while Pascal Gross can count himself unlucky if he doesn’t get a go from the start given the poor midfield display of Emre Can against Japan.

Germany predicted lineup

Ter Stegen, Henrichs, Sule, Rudiger, Gosens, Kimmich, Gross, Gundogan, Schade, Muller, Sane

Team news: France

In light of their 2-0 victory over Ireland, Deschamps may be tempted to simply protect his players ahead of their return to club football given that the match against Germany is only a friendly. On the other hand, he may see it as the perfect opportunity to send a message to the rest of Europe that France’s golden period isn’t over yet.

One decision that has been taken away from Deschamps relates to his centre forward. Olivier Giroud was forced off in the first half of the match against Ireland and his replacement, Marcus Thuram, managed to net his first international goal. Thuram should be rewarded with a start against Germany.

Given the talent at his disposal, Deschamps will likely reward some of his squad players with a start. The likes of William Saliba and Eduardo Camavinga, who are both key players at club level, will likely be at the front of the queue for a start which could mean Rabiot and Lucas Hernandez drop to the bench.

France predicted lineup

Maignan, Pavard, Saliba, Upamecano, T Hernandez; Camavinga, Tchouameni, Griezmann; Coman, Thuram, Mbappe

Will Olivier Giroud play today?

AC Milan striker, Olivier Giroud, hobbled off the pitch in the first half against Ireland and has already returned to Italy. This means that he won’t be available for selection for the match against Germany which poses a slight problem for Deschamps after Karim Benzema retired from international football after the World Cup.
