On Wednesday night, France take on Morocco for a place in the World Cup final. After Argentina defeat Croatia yesterday, all eyes will now be on the Al Bayt Stadium to see who joins Lionel Messi and co for Sunday’s showcase event.
While many people will be rooting for the Moroccan fairytale to continue, it’s hard to imagine the current World Champions giving up their crown without a fight. If you’re looking to bet on the game, then we’ve got you covered below with some of the best markets to bet on.
To win
Although Morocco needed extra time and penalties to overcome Spain in the round of 16, France haven’t gone beyond 90 minutes so far and are the only semi-finalist to be able to boast that. In theory, if they can defeat England in 90 minutes then they should be able to defeat Morocco in without extra time and penalties as well – although we know football doesn’t always work like that.
Despite that, the difference in value between backing France to win in 90 minutes and them qualifying is so vast that it feels the 90 minute bet is worth taking on if you think France will come out on top. With Ladbrokes, they are 8/15 to win in 90 minutes and a whopping 2/9 to qualify.
If you fancy an upset, then do the opposite and back the “to qualify” market. Morocco are 29/10 to make it to the final and are more likely to need a penalty shootout to seal the victory.
Over/under
Throughout the tournament so far, games involving France have seen an average of 3.2 goals per game while Morocco’s games have seen an average of just 1.2. What that tells us is that France will benefit from an open game and Morocco will benefit from a tight one.
Despite France being considered one of the best teams in the world, they are still at their best in transition. It’s unlikely that Morocco will afford them the opportunity to counter-attack often in this game which sets us up for a low-scoring game.
With Ladbrokes, under 2.5 goals is 8/13 which isn’t great value but under 1.5 could be worth a look at 9/5. An early goal for France, though, and the game will likely open up and the floodgates could open.
#GetAPrice – Mbappe
Ladbrokes are offering special markets on certain players throughout the World Cup and for this quarter-final, they are focusing on Mbappe for France. Some of the best markets within this bracket are as follows:
- Mbappe to score from outside the box – 9/1
- Mbappe to score in both halves – 8/1
- Mbappé to score anytime, to have an assist, and to have 6 or more shots – 18/1
To win on penalties
We’ve already seen four penalty shootouts in the knockout stages so far, so it isn’t beyond the realms of possibility that we see another one tonight. While Morocco won’t necessarily “play” for a penalty shootout, they would probably take one if you offered it them right now. France certainly won’t settle for a shootout but would back themselves to come out on top if one happens.
Ladbrokes have priced both teams the same at 11/1 should the game go beyond 120 minutes.
