The game is scheduled for Sunday, July 23rd and will be played in Sydney, Australia at the Sydney Football Stadium. The kick-off time is 11:00 am GMT. Now, let’s delve straight and look at all the team news and also at our predictions for France vs Jamaica women lineups.

France predicted lineup: Are Les Bleues going to suffer due to poor health?

After back-to-back quarterfinal exits in the last 2 World Cups France will be looking for better fortunes this time around. Les Bleues are known for their strong starts to big tournaments and they will seek another win after being able to win their first matches without even conceding a goal in all of their last 3 WWC appearances.

France enter this tournament with a new manager at the helm. Herve Renard is an ambitious head coach that led Saudi Arabia’s men to a famous win vs Argentina during the last FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Renard is known as a psychological guru and his main job will be to inspire the slightly inexperienced group of players he has taken Down Under.

Due to injuries, France enter this tournament without many of their stars. All of Katoto, Jean-Francois, Henry and Cascarino would have normally been in the starting lineup but now all 4 are missing the tournament due to serious injuries. Another key player Selma Bacha is also likely to sit out the opening match as she’s nursing an ankle issue.

All this means that the inexperienced Renard and De Almeida are likely to start as the main pair of centre-backs. Up front Mateo seems poised to be leading the attack, with Renard favouring a 4-3-3 formation since he took charge.

France Predicted Lineups (4-3-3):

Peyraud-Magnin – Lakrar, De Almeida, Renard, Karchaoui – Geyoro, Toletti, Dali – Diani, Mateo, Le Sommer

Jamaica predicted lineup: Is Shaw ready to put up a show?

Jamaica, currently ranked 43rd in the world by FIFA, are about to enter just their 2nd World Cup. The Reggae Girlz struggled to impress during their debut 4 years ago when they lost all of their 3 group stage matches with a 1-12 aggregate score.

Jamaica had a difficult buildup for this tournament too as in 2023 they have lost 5 of their 7 international fixtures (W1 D1).

All that said the Jamaican women have in their ranks one of the most lethal strikers in the world right now. Khadija Shaw has scored 55 goals in 38 matches for the Reggae Girlz. She also scored 28 goals in 29 games for Man City this season. Shaw comes into this tournament determined to shine.

Jamaica’s head coach Lorne Donaldson is expected to crowd the midfield area and use a 4-5-1 shape in this game. In defence, the Swaby sisters are likely to start together as the main pair of centre-backs. Shaw might be left isolated up front but as she has shown countless times she doesn’t need much to find the back of the net.

Here is how we think Jamaica will line up in this opening game.

Jamaica Predicted Lineups (4-5-1):

Spencer – Wiltshire, A. Swaby, C. Swaby, Blackwood – Carter, Spence, Solaun, Sampson, Brown – Shaw
