England women vs Denmark predicted lineups and latest team news

The 2022 European champions England made a sloppy start to their 2023 World Cup campaign. Still, they found a way to edge Haiti, a team 49 places lower in the world rankings, 1-0 thanks to Stanway’s converted penalty. The display wasn’t pretty though and England lacked creative ideas in attack all match. Denmark also achieved a lucky 1-0 win vs China in their first World Cup game since 2007. A goal from a substitute in the final minute decided this match. Now let’s look at our predictions for England women vs Denmark lineups.

The game is scheduled for Friday, June 28th. It will be played at Sydney Football Stadium in Sydney, Australia. The kick-off time is 09:30 am GMT.

England predicted lineup: Can the displays improve without touching the lineup?

England boss Sarina Wiegman couldn’t find a way to improve the forward actions vs Haiti. The converted penalty that brought the narrow win was the only goal the Lionesses scored in their last 3 internationals (W1 D1 L1). On all her good runs the main striker Russo was very wasteful against Haiti.

All that said, since Weigman took charge England women have lost only once in 33 matches so their confidence remains high. The atmosphere in the Lionesses den, for this tournament is the 4-star Crowne Plaza Hotel on the Gold Coast, seems to be very positive too:

Team news

It was pleasing for all fans of the Lionesses to see the rock of the back 4 Millie Bright go through her first 90 competitive minutes since April unharmed. Bright had little to do against Haiti but now she is likely to be tested a lot more. Still, the indications are that she will start again with England expected to make no changes to their lineup. Even the wasteful Russo is expected to start again up front.

England Predicted Lineups (4-3-3):

Earps – Carter, Greenwood, Bright, Bronze – Walsh, Stanway, Toone – Hemp, Russo, Kelly

Denmark predicted lineup: Can the first-game hero Vangsgaard force her way into the lineup?

Denmark looked nervous in their first World Cup match since 2007 when they faced China in the first round. The Danes eventually settled though and with all of their players making their World Cup debuts some nice rhythm was found late on. Eventually, Amalie Vangsgaard came off the bench and scored the only goal of the match in the final minute.

Denmark lost 4 of their 5 H2Hs vs the Lionesses this decade. However, they won once and this should give them some confidence. The Danish women will also feel confident from the fact that they come into this match on the back of 6 wins in their last 7 internationals, with 5 clean sheets in those 7 matches to accompany that achievement.

Team news

Despite becoming the hero of the opening game we don’t think Vansgaard will start now. Denmark are expected to opt for a more defensive approach and bring Vansgaard and her addictive energy off the bench in the second half.

There are no injury issues reported from the Danish camp, so coach Lars Sondergaard has the opportunity to name an unchanged squad.

Denmark Predicted Lineups (4-3-3):

Christensen – Sevecke, Ballisager, Boye, Veje – Hasbo, Holmgaard, Kuhl – Thomsen, Sorensen, Harder
