Crystal Palace Next Manager: Roy Hodgson makes decision on Eagles job

Crystal Palace Next Manager: Roy Hodgson makes decision on Eagles job

Crystal Palace turned things around dramatically in the Premier League last season to finish in 11th place in the table.

It was a remarkable end to the campaign for the Eagles, who were looking likely of being relegated to the Championship for the majority of the season.

But a change of managers did the trick, with Roy Hodgson replacing Patrick Vieira in the dugout to great effect.

The former replaced the latter in March on a deal that would last until the end of the season, with Hodsgon now making a decision on his future at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace boss to stay on

And the decision should delight many Crystal Palace fans, with Hodgson agreeing to stay on in the dugout for another season, as per BBC Sport.

The 75-year-old is currently on holiday, but is expected to sign his extended contract at the London club when he returns.

The former England boss previously spent four years in charge of the Eagles from 2017-2021, before deciding to step away from football.

The manager returned to coaching when he took over Watford in January 2022, but he made his exit five months later when the club were relegated to the Championship.

But Crystal Palace soon came calling once again, with Hodgson taking over from Vieira with the club heavily involved in a relegation battle.

The veteran boss showed all his class and experience to take 18 points from his 10 matches in charge, guiding his club away from the bottom three and to safety.

The Eagles were without a win in 12 matches in all competitions under his predecessor Vieira.

Wilfried Zaha next club odds

Hodgson has earned legendary status at Crystal Palace, but he now has a busy summer ahead, with one of his main tasks involving keeping star player Wilfried Zaha at Selhurst Park.

The winger has long been linked with a move away from the Eagles, with Premier League giants Arsenal perhaps coming closest over recent years.

It seems that the Gunners are no longer in need of the attacker, but there could be plenty of other clubs that will show an interest in his services this summer.

Zaha is currently 2/1 to join French outfit PSG, with the winger then 7/2 to make the switch to any Saudi Arabian club or to move to Serie A side Lazio.

He is 9/2 to stay at his current club for another season, with Zaha given odds of 14/1 to move to any Turkish Super Lig club.

Crystal Palace preparing for new campaign

Palace have a busy summer ahead of them, with the Eagles involved in five pre-season friendlies to get them ready for the new Premier League campaign.

They will meet Barnet, Brondby, Crawley Town, Millonarios and Sevilla over the coming months.

It remains up in the air if Zaha will still be there for the opening day of the new league season, but Hodgson definitely will after committing his future to the club.

The Eagles begin proceedings with a tricky test against newly-promoted Sheffield United, who will be looking to cook up a storm in front of their own fans on the opening day.
