Corinthians vs Palmeiras predicted lineups and news

The bustling metropolis that is São Paulo has been known to come to a standstill when these two teams clash such are the stakes. Although Palmeiras have dominated proceedings recently there is no doubt that this game can always throw in surprises.

The Timão  have struggled at set pieces in recent derby games and that was said to be a focus of training during the week as Vanderlei Luxemburgo prepares his side. Meanwhile Palmeiras have just one player suspended, Luan, as Abel Ferreira is set to send out a full strength team.

Team news: Corinthians

In the week of their 113th anniversary there has been plenty to celebrate for Corinthians, firstly the 4th consecutive penalty shootout win over Argentinian teams as they booked a place in the Sudamericana semifinal. They were also relieved after the last league game to see that none of the 12 players just one yellow card away from suspension picked up a booking.

It means that the only two absentees heading into Sunday are the injured pair of  right-back Fagner and midfielder Roni. Luxemburgo isn’t going to deviate from his preferred 4-3-3 formation and assuming Renato Augusto’s  fitness develops as hoped will line up with the following side.  Cássio was a hero between the sticks against Estudiantes de la Plata and will surely be called upon in this contest.

Botafogo predicted lineup: 4-3-3

Cássio – Bruno Méndez, Gil, Lucas Veríssimo, Fábio Santos – Gabriel Moscardo, Maycon, Renato –  Matías Rojas, Wesley, Yuri Alberto

Team news: Palmeiras

The verdão will be giving it the best they have in this game as they patiently stalk leaders Botafogo waiting to pounce on any error. Although there was some rumours regarding a back three the aforementioned suspension of Luan means we’re likely to see a 4-3-3 to match Corinthians’ approach.
