In match week six of the Premier League season, Chelsea will host Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge, in what is set up to be an exciting affair between the two sides, let’s take a look at how the sides could lineup.

Unai Emery’s side sit in 7th place, while Mauricio Pochettino’s squad are down in 14th, with Sunday’s hosts hoping for a different result to the last time the fixture was played.

Kick off will come at 14:00 from Stamford Bridge, however the match will not be streamed in the UK.

Chelsea vs Aston Villa predicted lineups and news

The hosts will be desperate for a win, having recorded just one victory so far in their opening five games of the 2023/24 campaign, which came at home to newly promoted Luton Town.

As for Villa, Emery’s side will want to build some form in the league, on the back of their last-gasp three points against Crystal Palace at Villa Park.

The last time the two sides met at Stamford Bridge was in April, when the visitors left the capital with a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Ollie Watkins and John McGinn, after outclassing the Blues on the day.

Team news: Chelsea

When Pochettino was hired, there was a lot of hope that the Argentine would get Chelsea firing again, although so far that has been far from the case.

Last time out, the Blues were held to a mundane 0-0 draw against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium however, the point gained against the Cherries was an improvement on the previous home result, where they lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest.

One factor of Chelsea’s woes has been their extensive injury list, which was added to last weekend as Moises Caicedo was absent due to suffering a knee injury while representing Ecuador during the international break.

In positive news, Marc Cucurella is expected to return to the squad after returning from illness.

Chelsea predicted lineup

Sanchez; Disasi, Silva, Colwill; Gusto, Fernandez, Caicedo, Chilwell; Sterling, Gallagher; Jackson

Team news: Aston Villa

Last time out in the Premier League, the Villans were late victors over Crystal Palace at Villa Park.

After being 1-0 down at the 87th minute mark, teen sensation Jhon Duran took the wheel and equalised, before two injury time goals gave Emery’s side all three points at the death.

The highs of their victory over the Eagles were quickly forgotten on Thursday, as the Midlands side marked their return to Europe with a 3-2 defeat to Legia Warsaw, in what was a dire show of defending.

A positive from the game is that Jacob Ramsey returned to action, as well as fellow absentee Alex Moreno who has been on the bench for the previous two match-ups.

Aside from long-term doubts Tyrone Mings and Emiliano Buendia, there are no new injury concerns to report for Sunday’s visitors, with Diego Carlos expected to remain away from action.

Aston Villa predicted lineup

Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Torres, Digne; Kamara, Luiz; Diaby, McGinn, Bailey; Watkins

Will Jacob Ramsey play against Chelsea?

One player that could feature for Aston Villa is midfielder Jacob Ramsey, who made his return to action on Thursday night during Villa’s defeat to Legia Warsaw.

The Englishman was a pivotal part of Emery’s squad last season, as communicated by his six goals and six assists in the 2022/23 Premier League campaign.

At the U21 European Championships, the 22-year-old was forced to withdraw from action due to suffering a broken metatarsal, leaving him on the sidelines for the start of the season.

One thing that’s for sure is that the Birmingham-born whiz could cause Chelsea real problems on Sunday.
