Chelsea should prefer ‘perfect’ Pochettino over Mourinho’s third return

The Blues’ Graham Potter experiment did not go according to plan. They had to course correct by relieving him of his services and reappointed Frank Lampard to steer the ship until the end of the campaign.

Lampard is adamant about delivering the goods and getting the job on a full-time basis. Roberto Di Matteo saw his time in the dugout extended after winning the Champions League and the Chelsea legend has the cookbook to continue for the long haul.

A Champions League triumph will sway the Chelsea board but as it stands, they are seeking a long-term replacement for the managerial position. Luis Enrique and Julien Nagelsmann lead the proceedings while Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane have also been touted for the role.

Out of the candidates in question, only Pochettino has Premier League experience. He impressed working with limited funds and even took Tottenham to the finals of the Champions League.

Pochettino to rule over Stamford Bridge

The Argentine can coach the players assembled for him, a hallmark of his time at White Hart Lane. He famously went two transfer windows without an addition to his roster, still managing a top-four ranking. The Stamford Bridge dressing room is bloated and will need a steward who can do just that.

Former Chelsea star, Paul Parker certainly believes so and is backing Pochettino to take the role. Despite the rivalry between the Blues and Spurs, he hailed his work in the northern part of London.

Parker admitted that the Argentine did not rise to the occasion at Parc des Princes. However, he alluded to issues he faced as a remnant of PSG’s overall cultural issues rather than Pochettino’s inability.

“I think that Chelsea should do everything in their power to get Pochettino,” Parker commented. “He is the perfect manager for them. People were criticising him after he left PSG, which is miserable. That club is outrageous and if you’re not winning the Champions League you’re going to be sacked.

“He did amazingly well with Tottenham. He got them into the top four, he took them to the Champions League final and the fans loved him. He plays entertaining football and he could do big things with Chelsea.”

Stay away from Jose Mourinho

Mourinho is currently reigning supreme at Stadio Olimpico. However, the Special One has an outside chance of returning to Stamford Bridge. He has the charisma to lead the American owners’ project and a personal connection with the Blues faithful.

Parker advised the club to stay away from the Portuguese manager who will be returning for his third stint with the club. The Blues’ should look in a different direction and not resort to their previous convictions with failed results.

“The last person I want to watch at Chelsea is Jose Mourinho. And I don’t think that Chelsea want him back for the third time.

“They are tired of his arrogance and they have to move on, even though it would be typical for Chelsea to do something like that and hire him.”

As it stands, after 30 rounds of action Chelsea are 11th on the points table. They are seven points removed from a place in the Europa Conference League and eight from the Europa League. Lampard will have to perform a miracle to realize this.
