Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has revealed two reasons why he joined the Blues from Benfica in January.
The west London outfit signed the Argentine youngster for a Premier League record £106m, with Fernandez immediately landing a starting role in the club’s midfield.
He is now into double figures for appearances, playing 10 times in the Premier League and twice in the Champions League.
But despite only joining the Blues at the turn of the year, Fernandez has already witnessed a managerial change, with Frank Lampard replacing Graham Potter.

Chelsea are undoubtedly enduring a crisis at the minute, but their star midfielder is only looking at the positives as he reveals why he decided to make the switch to Stamford Bridge.
“One of the factors was that I liked the long-term project the club is creating,” he told UEFA. “I also always dreamed about playing in the Premier League, and Chelsea had shown their interest in me even before the World Cup.”
Fernandez wants success
Despite being just 22 years old, he already has plenty of individual and team honours to his name. The midfielder lifted the Argentine Primera Division with River Plate before moving to Portuguese giants Benfica.
He then went on to help Argentina lift the 2022 World Cup in Qatar in December, with Fernandez winning the FIFA World Cup Young Player Award for his displays in midfield.
Such success has created an appetite for further trophies at Chelsea, who are out of contention for silverware domestically but are into the quarter-finals of this season’s Champions League, where they meet Real Madrid.
“I came to a big club, one that has always fought for trophies and that has won two Champions Leagues in a very short period of time,” said Fernandez. “Now that I’m here, I’ve realised how big this club really is.
“And that’s what we wanted, what the club aimed for as a whole. This was an important factor when making this decision, apart from the fact that it’s in such a beautiful city like London.
“I thought it all through with my family. If it’s God’s will, everything will turn out fine, and I’ll strive to win anything and everything.”
Chelsea midfielder taking time to adapt
Fernandez was one of several players brought in by Chelsea during the January transfer window, with the club spending millions under Todd Boehly as they looked to climb the Premier League table.
It hasn’t quite gone according to plan for the Blues, but Fernandez has explained that it will definitely take time for the players to gel in the hugely busy squad.
“Adapting always takes time, meeting new players,” added Fernandez. “I was among the ten new players that came in [during the winter]. It’s hard with different languages, so it’s difficult to connect with teammates at the beginning.
“As time goes by, we start getting to know our teammates better and it will get better with time. Have I struck up a connection with Kai Havertz and João Felix? We do have this connection, away from the pitch as well.
“But we have many good players. All of our attackers are class and have quality, so all of them can play at the top level.”
