Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic has praised two of his teammates who are “playing so well together.”
The American has noticed an improvement in the club of late, with the Blues now on a four-match unbeaten run.
Graham Potter’s men have defeated Leeds and Leicester in the league within that run, as well as drawing with Everton, with Chelsea also defeating Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League round of 16 second leg.
Chelsea winger praises midfield duo
Such form has delighted Blues attacker Pulisic, who is now back on the pitch after a knee injury kept him sidelined for some time. He featured in three of those four matches, including against former club Dortmund.
Following his return from injury, the American has been called up to his national team for their CONCACAF Nations League fixtures against Grenada and El Salvador later this month.
But focusing on his club Chelsea, the attacker believes the Blues are working their way back to their best, with central midfielders Enzo Fernandez and Mateo Kovacic forming a strong partnership in the middle of the pitch.
The teammates are linking up well for the Blues, having come up against one another for their respective countries at the 2022 World Cup.
Speaking about the huge number of players that have arrived at Stamford Bridge in recent transfer windows, Pulisic believes taking time to gel is inevitable, but the midfield duo have almost mastered it.
“It is normal, we have been getting to know each other,” Pulisic told the Chelsea website. “We have so many players in the squad and I think we are developing, you can see it on the pitch.
“Enzo and Kovacic, playing so well together. It is starting to click. We still have a long way to go but you can see the improvement.
“That is what happens when you bring in new players – and we have brought in a lot – and you can now see the improvement. We go out with the team for meals and stuff and spend a lot of time together.
“So we do anything that can help, for sure. They are all good guys off the pitch and we are trying to translate that onto the pitch.”
Chelsea to push for top four?
Chelsea were on a three-match winning run before Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Everton, which will have been disappointing for Potter and his players. Nonetheless, it kept their unbeaten run in check, and sees the Blues sitting 10th in the Premier League table.
The west London outfit are 11 points behind Tottenham Hotspur in fourth place, but Pulisic believes the Champions League places are still within Chelsea’s reach this season.
“The fans, for sure, have been great,” he added. “We appreciate that. We will keep fighting and keep pushing, as we want to do well for the fans.
“If you string a couple of wins together, it’s possible. We still have to play the teams above us. Anything is possible, and we are going to keep fighting.”
The Blues have a very tricky run-in, with Liverpool, Brighton and Newcastle all yet to visit Stamford Bridge, while Chelsea must still make trips to Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City.
