It has been reported that Tottenham will announce Ange Postecoglou as their new head coach, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The agreement in place is a two-year deal for the former Australian manager, with an option for a further season included within the deal.

Everything is in place, Romano is reporting the compensation documents with Celtic are still to be finalised before Tottenham announce the deal themselves.

Spurs settle for Celtic boss

The Tottenham next manager market has taking several turns over the last couple of months, and despite it being apparent that Ange Postecoglou was not the club’s first choice, the Celtic manager has accepted a deal to leave the Scottish Premiership and take over the North London side.

Despite Postecoglou not being the club’s first choice, he comes into the role having won the treble with the Hoops last campaign, and Celtic fans will be devastated to see him move on.

When Postecoglou accepted his role at Celtic, not too many knew about him in Scotland, and plenty made a lot of noise about his appointment.

Yet the former Yokohama Marinos manager has put Celtic back on top since his arrival in 2021, winning five trophies for the Hoops.

Having won the J League, two Scottish Premierships, two League Cups and one Scottish Cup in the last four years, Postecoglou has convinced most he is capable with his forward thinking tactics that he can manage at the very top.

A huge job awaits the Australian

It has been reported by The Telegraph that although Spurs’ 70-day wait for a new manager appears to be nearing an end, Postecoglou will have his work cut out from the moment he walks through the door.

With seven first-team players rumoured to be on their way out of the club, including club captain and World Cup winner Hugo Lloris, the new head coach will have a busy summer period ahead of him.

There’s been rumours about Harry Kane’s next club, with both Manchester United and Real Madrid keen – the latter in particular after the announcement Karim Benzema is heading to Saudi Arabia.

His first job will be to sit down with his England international striker and convince him to stay, which would be one way to win over any Spurs fans who are on the fence about his appointment.

Will Spurs fans be happy?

Although Tottenham fans were linked with former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann, while seeing former fan favourite Mauricio Pochettino head to arch-rivals Chelsea, Postecoglou was arguably not at the top of their list.

However, his attacking style of play and success in recent years both in Japan and Scotland have shown he has earned his chance at a big club and the Tottenham board believe they have, at long last, made the right appointment for the club.

Time will tell if Spurs have made the right appointment but Postecoglou will be delighted his achievements in Scotland with Celtic haven’t gone unnoticed and he has more than earned his opportunity in the Premier League.

His appointment with the club is likely to be made official in the next 24-48 hours.
