Jamal Musiala has quickly become one of the sought-after players in German football. The 19-year-old has progressed in leaps and bounds over the last few months to make himself a key player not just for Bayern Munich, but also for the German national team. Last season, the midfielder featured in 30 league appearances but just 12 were from the start. Now, a combination of injury problems and poor form for Bayern Munich led to Musiala getting more opportunities and he has been able to make the most of the same.
The 19-year-old has been able to hit eight goals from just 10 starts in the league this season and he has also contributed through four assists as well. Many doubted his potential to make a major impact due to his slender build, but he has so become one of the key players for club and country. Musiala is now the second top scorer at Bayern.
Musiala’s Transformation at Bayern

Musiala was a prodigy when Bayern Munich were managed by current German national team boss Hansi Flick. After being groomed during his two years at Bayern Munich, Hansi Flick has been giving Musiala excellent opportunities to impress at the national team level as well. Musiala has predominantly featured from the bench for the World Cup qualifiers, but he is expected to become one of the key names in the German team when the World Cup 2022 kicks off in Qatar.
Interestingly, the midfield is one of the places where the German national team is overflowing with a lot of options. Even with a couple of injury problems, Germany still have a number of options in the creative and defensive areas of the midfield.
The midfielder had the opportunity to represent England or Germany at the senior level. After choosing his birth country in 2021, he has not looked back. Musiala has to make 17 appearances for the German national team. Flick is especially a fan of the impact that Musiala can have against teams that tend to sit back with big numbers. In such instances, the speed and eye for goal can end up making a major difference. Despite being only 19, Musiala is already seen as the future star of German football by his experienced teammates like Manuel Neuer and Ilkay Gundogan.
Germany’s World Cup 2022
Germany begin the World Cup with a game against Japan on 23rd November. This will be followed by a match against 2010 world champions Spain before finishing the group with the game against Costa Rica.
After replacing Joachim Loew in the dugout, Flick will be keen to make a big impact. This will be his first major tournament as the German boss. After the likes of Timo Werner have picked up injuries, it would not be a big surprise if Musiala is used in a more advanced position at the World Cup. The midfielder loves to play in the attacking midfield position, but he can also be quite flexible as he can do the job in the defensive midfield positions or the wings.
