Bayern Munich vs. Freiburg predicted lineups: Boateng and Freiburg’s negative record

Bayern host Freiburg after another week of European football dominated the headlines during the week. In recent years, Freiburg have successfully developed into a side to envy: little money but ambitious work to close the gap. Much of it is linked to the coach: Christian Streich. Throughout this development, he has kept his human touch. However, their record against Bayern is catastrophic.

Bayern vs Freiburg: Bundesliga Team News

It was a difficult week for FC Bayern Munich, not so much on the pitch but off it. Many headlines focussed on a possible return of Jerome Boateng and the signal this would send out to the fanbase and society in general. Bayern are generally ignorant of public opinion as the re-election of Uli Hoeness as president has shown after he served his sentence for financial mismanagement. Boateng was convicted of violent assault against his partner. The club decided against Boateng in the end – thus avoiding further criticism from fans.

Bayern Team News

Coach Thomas Tuchel has aired his anger about the planned tour of the German national team to the United States and Mexico on the other side of the Atlantic, stating that the DFB have not asked them, i.e. Bayern, about the call-up of his players for national duty. His point is that the number of games per season for top players is constantly increasing, leaving less and less time for recovery for the players.

Possible Line-Up For Bayern

Goretzka could be in the starting XI alongside Laimer instead of Mazraoui. Little surprise that Müller is also a strong contender to start the match. Manuel Neuer is still in training, Serge Gnabry is out with a broken forearm and de Ligt has a minor knee injury.

Ulreich – Mazraoui, Upamecano, M.-J. Kim, Davies – Goretzka, Kimmich – L. Sané, Musiala, Coman – Kane

Freiburg: Latest Team News

Freiburg come on the back of a defeat at the hands of West Ham, with a performance that left fans scratching their heads about the mistakes during the game that cost them a point. However, Christian Streich, the head coach defended his players afterwards but was relatively soft in his analysis. The game was a game of two halves in the truest sense of the word. The first half, Freiburg were anxious and insecure after conceding early, while the second half looked much better but an individual error cost them.

Freiburg: Possible Line-Up

Due to a broken arm, Günter will not be available for the match as will be Höfler who is suspended following a red card. Kyereh is out for longer with a torn cruciate ligament and Rosenfelder is troubled by muscular problems.

Atubolu – Sildillia, Ginter, Lienhart – Sallai, Röhl, M. Eggestein, Kübler – Höler, Grifo – Adamu

Bayern vs. Freiburg: will Freiburg’s negative record against Bayern continue?

The Freiburg coach is very much aware that another performance like the one during the first half against West Ham will lead to heavy defeat and asks for an improvement in all departments of his squad for the trip to Munich. However, the odds are against Freiburg as their record stands at 14 wins for Bayern from the last 20 matches. Further, Streich’s record against Bayern’s current coach, Thomas Tuchel is equally bad: he has only won 2 matches but lost 8 times so far. Only two draws for Freiburg and Streich against Bayern – this record does not speak favourably of Freiburg.

For Bayern a win is almost as vital as it would be for Freiburg. A win would see them go top of the league while a draw or even a defeat would not seriously hamper their title defense but instill hope among others that Bayern are not unbeatable despite their quality.
