Ajax host rivals Feyenoord in Eredivisie action on Sunday, in what is the first De Klassieker of the new season. Ajax vs Feyenoord H2H: The story so far

Ajax and Feyenoord have met 154 times in all competitions so far, with 73 of those matches taking place in the former’s home city of Amsterdam. Feyenoord have hosted this fixture slightly more often (77 times), while four games have been played at a neutral venue.

  • Ajax wins: 76
  • Draws: 40
  • Feyenoord wins: 38

Ajax have certainly had the upper hand in the history of De Klassieker, winning just under half of the matches between the two clubs. A total of 43 of their wins have come on home soil, with 30 wins coming away from home and three at a neutral venue.

Feyenoord held their own in their two league meetings with Ajax last season on their way to the league title, defeating their rivals 3-2 away from home after a 1-1 draw in Rotterdam. However, Ajax dominated proceedings before then in terms of Eredivisie clashes, boasting a six-match unbeaten run.

History in the making

Remarkably, there have been just two 0-0 draws in the entire history of De Klassieker, both of which took place in the league in Amsterdam; 1978/79 and 2014/15. Could Sunday represent just the third goalless draw between Ajax and Feyenoord?

Feyenoord 1-2 Ajax (5 April 2023)

The two clubs met most recently in a KNVB Cup semi-final clash, with Ajax coming out on top by two goals to one. Dusan Tadic and Davy Klassen found the back of the net at De Kuip, either side of Santiago Gimenez’s goal for the hosts. The visitors finished the match with 10 men due to Kenneth Taylor’s red card.

Ajax 2-3 Feyenoord (19 March 2023)

Edson Alvarez and Dusan Tadic scored for Ajax in this league encounter, but it wasn’t enough to see them take any points, as Santiago Gimenez, Sebastian Szymanski and Lutsharel Geertruida netted for Feyenoord in this five-goal thriller.

Feyenoord 1-1 Ajax (22 January 2023)

The two clubs played out a rare stalemate in Rotterdam at the start of 2023, thanks to goals from Igor Paixao for the home side and Davy Klaasen for the visiting team.

Ajax 3-2 Feyenoord (20 March 2022)

The two Dutch giants also played out a five-goal thriller in the 2021/22 Eredivisie campaign’s second Klassieker. Luis Sinisterra and Guus Til scored for the travelling side, but goals from Sebastien Haller, Dusan Tadic and Antony secured all three points for the host team. The Brazilian winger did, however, see a red card late on in the match.

Feyenoord 0-2 Ajax (19 December 2021)

A Marcos Senesi own goal and a Dusan Tadic penalty clinched three league points for Ajax in this straightforward victory at De Kuip.

Iconic Moment

Ajax 4-0 Feyenoord – 27 October 2019

One iconic moment between these two clubs came as recently as October 2019, when Ajax reminded Feyenoord who the boss of De Klassieker really is.

The Amsterdam outfit held no prisoners, as they stormed into a lead after just two minutes through Hakim Ziyech. His teammates Nicolas Tagliafico, David Neres and Donny van de Beek all then scored before the half-time whistle.

Final prediction

Ajax have been the dominant force in this fixture over the years, but we believe Feyenoord can claw back some De Klassieker dignity on Sunday, even though they will face a hostile atmosphere in Amsterdam.

We’re saying a 2-1 win for Feyenoord, with in-form forward Santiago Gimenez scoring the opening goal.
