‘A clear rule’ – Jurgen Klopp issues one demand for Liverpool players at World Cup

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says his players have to text him if there are any issues during the World Cup.

As reported by Liverpool FC, Klopp has laid down the law for communication during the tournament.

7 Liverpool players must stay in contact with Klopp

A total of seven Liverpool players have been called up to their respective squads for the tournament. Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold made the 26-man England squad, with Fabinho and Alisson selected for Brazil.

Defenders Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate have been chosen for the Netherlands and France respectively, with Darwin Nunez called up by Uruguay.

“That is now a number that is not too big,” said Klopp. “They are important players for us, very important players, but we have a clear rule how it is with them in the national games: the boys have to text me if there are any issues and especially after the game.

“In the World Cup it is different, we can see all the games, we see ‘he is playing or not playing’ and we can probably read the news. When there is a World Cup you get all the information.

“When there is a normal international game and Brazil plays, it’s tricky to get any kind of information so we need the players to tell us, ‘No, fine, 90 minutes but I’m OK.’ That’s the contact we will have, definitely.

“It is clear that when they are winning the players’ WhatsApp group will get bonkers and that’s how it is.”

Reds to train in Dubai to keep fit

Klopp noted that Liverpool will have a training camp in Dubai in a bid to keep his other plays fit and ready.

The Reds are scheduled to play Manchester City in the EFL Cup round of 16 on December 22. It is just four days after the World Cup final.

The Liverpool boss has decided on a nearby location for the training camp in a bid to stay as close as possible to the action in Qatar.

“Anyway, we are in the training camp in Dubai – that’s around the corner [from Qatar], so if somebody has to leave the tournament early they can join us immediately,” said Klopp.

“That’s one of the reasons why we go there.”

Klopp unsure which Liverpool team will play Man City

Man City will also be well-represented at the tournament. The likes of Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias, John Stones, Ederson, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Julian Alvarez have all been selected by their respective countries.

When asked what team Klopp will select for Liverpool’s League Cup meeting with Man City, he replied: “I have really no idea.

“The thing is that we have a pre-season before that game, so the players will be involved, definitely involved, hopefully fit enough and stuff like this, and have a pre-season.

“I think that’s similar with City. City has definitely more players at the World Cup than we have. So, we have to see who is available. That’s always, by the way, the case: players’ availability and these kind of things.

“For this game, I have no idea. We will come back from our training camp and I will make the decision then around the game.”
