5 Man Utd transfer targets as Ralf Rangnick given £100m budget

Incoming Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick will be keen to impress in the dugout when finally given the chance.

It is, however, Michael Carrick who remains in charge for now. The former midfielder will be overseeing Thursday night’s meeting with Arsenal.

But Rangnick is expected to be the main man for United’s game against Crystal Palace on Sunday. And according to the Mirror, he has been handed a budget of £100m for the January transfer window.

Here are five players the manager could bring in to strengthen his squad:

Nordi Mukiele

The RB Leipzig right-back could be in search of a new challenge. The German side are currently undergoing a struggle both domestically and in Europe. Moreover, the 24-year-old is also very versatile. As well as right-back, he has been used in centre-back and right midfield. He is now a target for Rangnick, as per 90min.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has made the position his own in recent years. That is thanks to his impressive displays, but also because of the lack of competition for the role. The arrival of Alex Telles undoubtedly led to Luke Shaw returning to his very best at left-back, so a similar situation could arise on the other side of the defence.

Amadou Haidara

Another RB Leipzig man, and another versatile player who could slot in well in Manchester. It’s no secret that United were in need of a defensive-minded midfielder in the summer. But top target Eduardo Camavinga went to Real Madrid, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer brought back Cristiano Ronaldo.

Haidara mainly occupies central or defensive midfield, and could be the player that the Red Devils so badly need to sharpen things up. Eurosport claims that he is being eyed by the powers that be at Old Trafford. The Mirror reports that a move is on the cards.

Pau Torres

Man Utd have shipped 22 league goals this season. It’s one of the worst records in the English top-flight. The likes of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have simply not been up to the task.

The club will be more than familiar with Villarreal centre-back Torres. They met in this season’s Champions League group stages, as well as the 2021 Europa League final. Composure, class and an eye for a pass are just a few of the Spaniard’s traits.

Timo Werner

Bild claims that the Man Utd interim boss is very keen on bringing Werner to Old Trafford. The pair have history, with Rangnick signing the striker for RB Leipzig from Stuttgart. The boss then helped develop the attacker’s career in the Bundesliga.

Reports claim that not only are Rangnick and Werner close, but also that Rangnick and Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel are close. Such a relationship could prove very fruitful for the United boss. Werner has struggled to hit the heights expected of him at Stamford Bridge. And the return of Romelu Lukaku has only worsened the situation.

Ryan Gravenberch

The young midfielder is one of a number of exciting talents coming out of the Netherlands in recent years. That list includes the likes of Myron Boadu, Joshua Zirkzee and Jurrien Timber among many others.

At just 19, Gravenberch is currently starring in the heart of the Ajax midfield. He already has plenty of experience in Dutch and Champions League football, and the Eredivisie club may already be preparing for his big-money departure, as is their way with moving on young talents.
