Everton continued their miserable Premier League campaign on Monday night as Merseyside rivals Liverpool condemned the Toffees to another defeat.
Goals from Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo helped the hosts to a much-needed victory at Anfield, with manager Jurgen Klopp hoping the victory can kickstart a winning run in the club’s search for Champions League football.
But Everton boss Sean Dyche will not have been happy with his men, who largely failed to test Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson in a lacklustre display. The blue half of Merseyside are currently 18th in the Premier League table.
The club were not at all active in the January transfer window, with their only real impact involving the loss of winger Anthony Gordon. But which players could follow the youngster should Everton suffer relegation this season?

Jordan Pickford
Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has made over 200 appearances for the Toffees, and has been rewarded for such service with the captain’s armband at times this season. His contract does not expire until 2024, but there have been plenty of rumours linking him with an exit.
While Everton have been poor going forward, things at the back have been relatively secure, and a lot of it is largely down to the goalkeeper. He has been producing several world-class saves and point-black stops as usual this season.
Worryingly for the Merseyside outfit, however, both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the England shot-stopper. Both clubs have ageing goalkeepers, and are seemingly keen to usher in a new number one in the near future.
Idrissa Gueye
Now into his second spell at the club, Idrissa Gueye is a firm favourite at Goodison Park, having previously jetted off to French giants PSG. Now 33, the midfielder is a regular once again for the Toffees, with 17 league appearances this season.
He undoubtedly has big-game experience from his time playing in Ligue 1 and in the Champions League, and may just want to spread his wings one more time at a major European club before hanging up his boots.
A worrying sign for Dyche is the fact that the club initially signed Gueye from Aston Villa upon their relegation to the Championship in 2016 amid a release clause in his contract. History may just repeat itself in 2023 should the Toffees go down.
Amadou Onana
At the other end of his career is fellow midfielder Amadou Onana, with the 21-year-old enjoying a rapid rise in the blue of Everton. He has also shot straight to the top for his country Belgium, representing the Red Devils in the recent 2022 World Cup.
The youngster has been hugely impressive in both central and defensive midfield, chipping in with countless key tackles and winning the majority of his aerial battles, with his towering height a real advantage in the middle of the pitch.
Like Pickford, however, he has been linked with several top teams as Everton continue to struggle, with league leaders Arsenal reportedly leading the race for his signature. Big spending Chelsea have also been linked.
