Brisbane Heat vs Hobart Hurricanes Prediction, Betting Tips & Odds – BBL 2022-23

Two teams with hopes of taking the final play-off spot in the Big Bash League, Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes, go head to head this weekend in Queensland. Hobart Hurricanes are narrow favourites ahead of this game with odds of 4/5 (1.80).

These odds from Ladbrokes were correct at the time of writing.

  • Match 49, BBL 2022-23
  • Friday January 20th, from 09:00 AM GMT
  • The Gabba, Brisbane

Pitch Report and Weather Conditions

We have already seen a BBL game at the Gabba deliver 433 runs this year and we expect another good batting wicket. There are strong players in the bowling attacks of both sides and a par score is likely to be around 175-180 with the pace bowlers likely to cause the most problems.

Very humid and some stormy conditions are forecast for Brisbane on Friday evening and it seems unlikely that the thunderstorms will completely miss the ground. However, we still expect to see a full game with the temperature no higher than 22 degrees.

Brisbane Heat vs Hobart Hurricanes – Match Predictions

Both teams have won two of their last three games and, after largely disappointing campaigns, there is some hope again. Brisbane Heat have won their last two games away from home and it will be interesting to see how they deal with the different pressure of the home crowd. The Hurricanes lost against table-toppers Perth Scorchers in their last game but have been playing well and justify their tag as favourites for this match.

Probable 6s

Brisbane Heat have Josh Brown at the top of their order who has hit 13 sixes across the tournament so far. He is an aggressive player and we expect Matt Renshaw to look to carry on from where he left off in his innings against Melbourne Stars when he hit four sixes. However, it is very hard to look beyond the big-hitting power in Hobart Hurricanes’ line-up. Tim David has a strike-rate of 162.06 and has struck 16 sixes. With David alongside Caleb Jewell, Matthew Wade and Zak Crawley, we are backing the Hurricanes to hit the most sixes.

Our Prediction: Hobart Hurricanes to Hit Most Sixes 2/5 (1.40)

Probable Wickets

Patrick Dooley has impressed with his left-arm wrist spin and all-rounder Nathan Ellis has had some excellent games in BBL12, but it is right-arm fast bowler Riley Meredith who will cause the most worry in the Brisbane Heat locker room ahead of this match. The 26 year old comes into this clash after returning figures of 2-35, 2-14 and 2-25 from his last three outings.

Our Prediction: Riley Meredith to Be the Highest Wicket Taker for Hobart Hurricanes 11/4 (3.75)

Man of the Match

Although he has been dismissed cheaply in the last two matches, Hobart Hurricanes’ opener , Caleb Jewell, will enjoy batting on this quick track in Brisbane. Since the turn of the year, he has already made half-centuries against Adelaide Strikers (twice) and Melbourne Stars. With a long batting line-up behind him in the team, he can be relied upon to attack from the start of his innings and we expect his batting strike-rate of 159.35 to deliver a match-winning innings.

Our Prediction: Caleb Jewell to Be the Man of the Match 10/1 (11.00)

Brisbane Heat vs Hobart Hurricanes Preview

Although the teams are in seventh and sixth, there is only one point between them and both could finish as high as third if results went their way. With three games left for both, neither Heat or the Hurricanes can afford to lose this match.

Brisbane Heat

The return of the Test playing batters to Heat’s XI has reaped rewards in the last two games with Marnus Labuschagne top scoring against Adelaide Strikers before Matt Renshaw’s epic innings against Melbourne Stars. If Usman Khawaja can also deliver in this game then Heat will be very hard to beat.

32 year old pace bowler Michael Neser is one of only five players to have taken 2x four-wicket hauls in BBL12 but the only one to have taken a hat-trick. He loves bowling at the Gabba and will not worry about conceding runs.

Playing XI: Josh Brown, Usman Khawaja (c), Marnus Labuschagne, Matt Renshaw, Sam Hain, Jimmy Peirson (wk), James Bazley, Michael Neser, Matthew Kuhnemann, Spencer Johnson, Mitchell Swepson

Hobart Hurricanes

The Hurricanes lost their last game when none of their top top seven batters made a score of over 20. They have so much capability in their batting line-up that it would be a travesty if the same players failed to make big contributions on this batter-friendly surface in Brisbane.

As bowling trios go, the combination of Riley Meredith, Nathan Ellis and Patrick Dooley is one of the best in the tournament. If Dooley hadn’t missed some games through injury then the Hurricanes could well have already confirmed their place in the play-offs.

Playing XI: Caleb Jewell, Ben McDermott, Matthew Wade (c) (wk), Zak Crawley, Tim David, D’Arcy Short, Faheem Ashraf, Tom Andrews, Nathan Ellis, Patrick Dooley, Riley Meredith
