After more than six months of build up, the NRL Grand Final is here. While 17 teams did all they could to make it to this stage of the competition, there’s no denying that the two best teams in 2023 have made it to the season’s final match, with the Penrith Panthers and Brisbane Broncos squaring off this Sunday for the title. Read on for our Panthers vs Broncos predictions.
Penrith Panthers vs Brisbane Broncos – match predictions
Contents
The Penrith Panthers are chasing a rare three-peat at the Accor Stadium this weekend, while Brisbane are after their first title since 2006. Who will walk away with their dream shattered? Here are our top predictions ahead of the Panthers vs Broncos this weekend:
Penrith Panthers to win @ 4/7 (1.58)
While these two teams have undeniably been the best sides in the competition this year, it’s also hard to argue against the fact that the Penrith Panthers have been the top team in the NRL the last three years. With Nathan Cleary at the helm, and a home crowd behind them, it’s more than likely that Penrith will make it three from three this Sunday and go down in NRL history.
Whether they do it in emphatic style, as they have in their first two finals matches, or win an old fashioned tight Grand Final, is another question. Take the safe bet here and simply back the Panthers to win, one way or another.
Under 29 points @ 10/3 (4.25)
For a higher return, we say that this will be a low-scoring arm wrestle. Last time these two met, only 19 points were scored. The time before that, it was 25 points. Both are excellent defensive sides, and with the pressure of a Grand Final, there’s every chance this match could see points few and far between.
Penrith Panthers vs Brisbane Broncos preview
Heading into this match, here’s a look at how both teams’ seasons have gone so far in the NRL 2023:
Penrith Panthers
It’s been another dominant year for Penrith, who finished Minor Premiers for the second year in a row. So far this post-season, they’ve only gone from strength to strength, opening their finals campaign with a 32-6 drubbing of the New Zealand Warriors, before ending Melbourne’s hopes last week with an equally strong 38-4 victory.
Brisbane Broncos
Pacesetters for much of 2023, the Brisbane Broncos were beaten at the death by Penrith, who denied them the top spot on the NRL ladder in the final round. However, they’ve look unperturbed in the post-season, opening their account with a 26-0 shutout against the Melbourne Storm, before turning on an impressive 42-12 performance to put away the New Zealand Warriors.
Penrith Panthers vs Brisbane Broncos head to head
The Brisbane Broncos lead the overall head to head between these two sides by 35-24, with one draw. However, it was the Panthers who prevailed in their most recent meeting, coming out on top in a tight 15-4 affair in May 2023.
