England vs Argentina predictions and odds – Rugby World Cup Bronze Final 2023

Every team wants to go deep in a Rugby World Cup but if there’s one game they want to avoid then it’s the Bronze Final, which, let’s be honest, does not feel like a final at all! England and Argentina will be the two sides in action on Friday evening and they’ll be trying their hardest to make it look like they aren’t wishing it was the real final on Saturday!

It may be the match which they would rather not be playing, but we can expect a tight contest as the two teams meet each other for the second time in the tournament – the only pairing to do so in the 2023 Rugby World Cup. A Bronze Final in France is nothing new for Argentina who played in this fixture 16 years ago and came away with the medal after a comfortable victory over the hosts at the Parc des Princes. This will be the third Bronze Final which Argentina have contested from the last five Rugby World Cups after they lost to South Africa at the Olympic Stadium, London in October, 2015.

England vs Argentina match predictions

This will be the 27th meeting between the sides with England leading the head to head 20-5 with one draw. Both sides have won one of the last two meetings with England coming out on top in the Pool D opener in early September.

England to win with a -8.0 point handicap @ 1/1 (2.00)

So let’s go through the evidence from the opening fixture in Pool D when Argentina were the in-form side and England were at the back end of an awful run of results and were in the midst of their obsession with red cards! With that background, it was no surprise to see England go down to 14 men after only three minutes of the game, but what was a surprise was how England went on to control the match and win comfortably 27-10 with Los Pumas strangely subdued. Fast forward fifty days and England were the last team to lose a game in the 2023 Rugby World Cup and were only one point and three minutes away from reaching the final last weekend. We are backing England to comfortably win with an 8 point handicap.

Owen Farrell Over 15.5 Total Points @ 9/4 ( 3.25)

All of England’s points against Argentina in Marseilles came from the boot of George Ford but he will be on the bench in this game with the kicking of Owen Farrell likely to be England’s main source of points this time.

Say what you like about England’s over-reliance on kicking and lack of tries but it nearly took them to the final of the tournament! Since returning from suspension, England skipper Farrell has contributed 59 points from four matches so over 15.5 could be tight but in a more open Bronze Final, we expect him to deliver.

England vs Argentina match preview

Will England’s ‘so close but yet so far’ semi-final sob-story mean they are still grieving come Friday evening or will Argentina be so battered and bruised from their thrashing by New Zealand that they are unable to go again in the Bronze Final?

England

Back to back Rugby World Cup finals it is not for England but they have proved many doubters wrong during this tournament in France. Coming into the competition with most pundits expecting them to be dumped out at the group stage, Steve Borthwick’s men won six in a row! Borthwick has selected a strong side for the Bronze Final but has made eight changes to the team who were defeated in the semi-final.

Argentina

The pride of South America took a surprise early lead against the All Blacks last weekend but probably wished they hadn’t now as they were thrashed 44-6. This will be coach Michael Cheika’s final game in charge and he has made only three changes which shows how much he wants to sign off with some bronze around his neck.
