With the Raiders seeing their position on the NRL ladder rapidly slipping, while the Broncos are still in with a shot of claiming the Minor Premiership, there’s plenty on the line here in Canberra. Here are our top predictions ahead of the Raiders vs Broncos this Saturday:
Brisbane Broncos to Win by 13+ @ 2.37 (11/8)
Here’s a stat for you: the last time the Canberra Raiders beat a side currently in the top eight, was April. And that side was the Brisbane Broncos. Since then, the Raiders have fairly consistently beaten the poor teams they’ve faced, but have just as consistently fallen short against those of any calibre.
At one stage it looked as though the Raiders were going to be a genuine title threat in 2023, however two big losses over recent weeks–28-6 to the Knights and 48-2 to the Storm–have put that idea out of the minds of most. We say it’s going to be more of the same this weekend, with the Broncos simply too good for Canberra across all aspects of the game.
Brisbane Broncos Half Time/Full Time @ 1.70 (7/10)
There’s a chance that this one is tighter than the Raiders recent record suggests. It’s still very hard to see the Broncos dropping this one, but a more conservative wager would be to simply bet the half time/full time split in favour of the visitors, and not require such a big margin of victory for your bet to pay out.
Canberra Raiders vs Brisbane Broncos preview
Heading into this match, here’s a look at how both teams’ seasons have gone so far in the NRL 2023:
As touched on above, it’s been a patchy year for the Raiders. They’ve won when they were expected to win, and lost when any semblance of a challenge was posed to them. Sitting in sixth place on 32 points, while it looked like the Canberra would be pushing for a top four spot, now they’re beginning to be in danger of missing the top eight. It’s unlikely, but given they play two top eight sides in their final two fixtures, not entirely impossible.
The Broncos have had a spectacular season, setting the pace from the get go in 2023. While the Panthers have caught them over the back half of the season, Brisbane are still in with a chance at finishing Minor Premiers. Tied with Penrith on 40 points, they have 17 wins to five losses, only trailing top spot in the ladder due to points differential.
Canberra Raiders vs Brisbane Broncos head to head
This is a tight head to head, with Brisbane winning 21 times and Canberra claiming 16 victories. Notably, the Raiders won their meeting earlier in the season.
