Zverev is finally fully back after he twisted his ankle last year at the Roland Garros. The German is currently 27th in the rankings and was at no. 2 prior to the injury. Zverev is 20-14 for the season and 12-5 on clay. On his way to the quarterfinals, he lost only one set. In the opening round, Zverev defeated Lloyd Harris 7-6, 7-6, 6-1, and in the second one, he was better than Alex Molcan 6-4, 6-2, 6-1. Frances Tiafoe won the opening set in the third round, but the German turned things around for a final 3-6, 7-6, 6-1, 4-6. In the last round, Zverev dominated Grigor Dimitrov winning 6-1, 6-4, 6-3. Zverev’s best result this season was the semifinal in Dubai where he lost to Andrey Rublev in straight sets.
Tomas Martin Etcheverry
The Argentinian is the breakthrough star of this year’s French Open. He came into the tournament as the world no. 49, never previously winning a match at the Roland Garros main draw. A week and a half later, Etcheverry is in the quarterfinals. On his way to get there, he won four matches without dropping a single set. In the opening round, Jack Draper retired in the second set and Alex de Minaur, Borna Coric and Yohishito Nihioka stood no chance against him. Besides this, Etcheverry’s best results this season were the finals in Bordeaux, Houston and Santiago. He has a 26-14 record for the year and 22-10 on clay.
