Next James Bond Odds – Who Will Replace Daniel Craig In the Role of 007?

When Daniel Craig announced that he will no longer play the famous agent 007, after being James Bond for 15 years and through five different movies, the speculations about his possible successor have been going on without a stop.

Daniel Craig James Bond

As with anything else, the bookies also got involved by offering odds on the next actor to play James Bond. With that in mind, we will now take a closer look at the next James Bond odds and which actors are the main favourites to replace Daniel Craig in this prestigious role.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson @ 15/8 (2.88)

According to the next James Bond actor odds, taken from different betting websites, the main candidate to become the next James Bond is Aaron Taylor-Johnson. With the odds of around 2/1 (3.00), he is the clear betting favourite, but does that actually mean he will get to play James Bond?

The 32-year-old Englishmen is best known for his roles in Tenet, Kick-Ass series, Nocturnal Animals, and Bullet Train, but you probably also know him as Quicksilvers from the Marvel Universe.

Aaron Taylor Johnson

According to persistent rumours from different sources, Taylor-Johnson met with producers about portraying the renowned role and the meeting reportedly “went well”. The actor himself didn’t confirm anything and avoided a straight answer when asked about it, but the rumour mill didn’t stop and he remains the top favourite to be the next James Bond.

Henry Cavill @ 2/1 (3.00)

Right behind Aaron Taylor-Johnson is Henry Cavill, with odds ranging from 2/1 (2.00) to 5/2 (3.50) across multiple bookies. So, Cavill is a strong second favourite and next James Bond odds certainly favour him ahead of some other names.

The 40-year-old doesn’t lack experience in action movies having played both Superman and Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s hit series The Witcher. He also had a role next to (or rather opposite) Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible – Fallout from 2018.

Henry Cavill

In a surprising move to many, Henry Cavill decided to leave The Witcher, so we won’t see him as Geralt of Rivia anymore, but he also announced that he will no longer play Superman either. That is one of the reasons for rumours to start regarding his possible takeover from Daniel Craig in the James Bond franchise. Furthermore, Cavill certainly fits the role of 007. After all, he reportedly did audition for the role back in 2005, but lost out to Daniel Craig.

James Norton – @ 3/1 (4.00)

While Taylor-Johnson and Cavill are in the main focus when it comes to candidates to become the next James Bond, James Norton is not far behind the duo, at least according to the bookies. After all, the next James Bond actor odds for James Norton go from 5/2 (3.50) to 7/2 (4.50).

Perhaps the main reason for that comes from relative lack of experience that Norton has in action roles, with his biggest roles yet coming in dramas like Little Women and the TV show Happy Valley. Still, the 37-year-old has good odds and is certainly in the race for the role.

Tom Hardy @ 8/1 (9.00)

With the next James Bond odds on Tom Hardy ranging from 7/1 (8.00) to 9/1 (10.00), he is not among the main favourites to take on the prestigious role, even though he is perhaps the best-known name of all the candidates.

After all, the 45-year old has some truly iconic roles behind him, such as the memorable villain Bane in Nolan’s third Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises, along with roles in many other big movies like Venom, Inception, Mad Max: Fury Road, Dunkirk, Legend, Lawless, Warrior, and many others.

Tom Hardy

Even his roles in TV shows like Peaky Blinders or Taboo are a huge part of his reputation as a great actor. Will that help him land the gig as the next James Bond remains to be seen.

Rege-Jean Page @ 8/1 (9.00)

With odds on Rege-Jean Page becoming the next James Bond ranging from 5/1 (6.00) to 9/1 (10.00), it’s clear that the bookies aren’t sure exactly how big his chances are. In any case, Rege-Jean Page overcame Idris Elba as the possible first James Bond to be played by a black person.

As one of the youngest candidates, the 35-year-old jumped to prominence thanks to his role as Duke of Hastings in Netflix’s hit series Bridgerton. That bein said, it seems that Page lacks experience compared to some other names on the shortlist and the producers would have to take a leap of faith to hire him as the next James Bond more so than with other actors we mentioned here.

Jack Lowden @ 11/1 (12.00)

Another young actor to have a chance at playing James Bond, Jack Lowden’s odds range from 9/1 (10.00) to 13/1 (14.00), according to different bookmakers in the UK.

The 32-year-old is known for his roles in Dunkirk and in the TV Show Small Axe, but his lack of experience will likely keep him away from actually getting the role of 007, at least for the time being. Given his young age, he could become a more serious candidate next time around.

Idris Elba @ 13/1 (14.00)

For years now Idris Elba was touted as one of the main candidates to be the next James Bond and to be the first black James Bond in the history of the franchise, but the bookies don’t see him as one of the top favourites right now, with odds ranging from 11/1 (12.00) to 15/1 (16.00).

Idris Elba

Given that he is already 50 years old, this might be the last chance for Elba to actually get the part. The experience is certainly there, with such memorable roles in popular titles like The Wire, Beasts of No Nation, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, and others.

Other Top Candidates to Be the Next James Bond

In addition to the main candidates that we already mentioned, the bookies offer next James Bond actor odds for a few others, so here’s a complete list of the top candidates that have a chance to get the prominent role:

  • Richard Madden
  • Aidan Turner
  • Sope Dirisu
  • Luke Evans
  • Callum Turner
  • Dan Stevens
  • Lucien Laviscount
  • Chiwetel Ejiofor
  • Tom Hopper
  • Jamie Dornan

When Will the Next James Bond Be Announced?

Given that the next James Bond movie is not expected to be released before 2025, that installation of the 007 series is still in early pre-production.

With that in mind, the announcement on the next actor to play the famous agent will likely come sometimes this year, but no official date has been given by the producers and they don’t seem to be in a rush to make the decision yet.
