In the previous tow rounds of the Berlin Open, Vondrousova defeated Bianca Andreescu 7-6, 7-5 in the opening match and in the second round Jule Niemeier retired at 6-3, 6-5 for Vondrousova. Her best result this year was the semifinal at the tournament in Linz where she lost to Anastasia Potapova.
