The Berlin Open is a tournament that has a long tradition that dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. It was a clay court event of the WTA Tour, which was held from 1979 to 2008 as the International German Championships in Berlin. Steffi Graf, one of the best tennis players ever, won the tournament nine times in a span of 11 years during the 1980s and the 1990s, and today the main court of the tournament is named in her honor. This is the third year the tournament is organized on grass courts and is a part of the WTA 500 series.
One Jabeur in singles and Storm Hunter and Katerina Siniakova in doubles are the defending champions. Jabeur is back in Berlin to defend the titles and she is the fourth seed in the singles draw. World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka is the top seed, followed by Elena Rybakina and Caroline Garcia.
