Emil Ruusuvuori to win the first set
Both players have enjoyed different passages through to the last 16 in Miami with van de Zandschulp having to come from a set behind in each of his games so far. Meanwhile, Ruusuvuori has won all three of his matches in straight sets, displaying his incredible natural ability in the process.
We believe the first set here is more important to the Finnish 23-year-old than his opponent and we are backing him to come up with the goods like he has done all week. Despite that, we wouldn’t be against an in-play bet on van de Zandschulp to win the match should he go a set down.
Over 22.5 total games
While backing three sets presents better value than the over 22.5 game market, we wouldn’t be surprised by either playing winning the match in straight sets, particularly if van de Zandschulp manages to win the opening set. Either way, we don’t expect any set between these two players to be quick and straightforward so backing the overs market on total games instead makes more sense to us.
Ruusuvuori may have won each of his three matches in Miami in straight sets, but he has needed a tiebreak in the two previous rounds. In round two, his match lasted 23 games and in round three, it lasted 22 games. All of van de Zandschulp’s games at the tournament, on the other hand, have gone well over 22 games.
Botic van de Zandschulp vs Emil Ruusuvuori Preview
With our predictions locked in, let’s take a closer look at both players.
Botic van de Zandschulp
Botic van de Zandschulp has really come into his own over the past couple of years, proving that you don’t have to be a teenage sensation to become a top-32 player. His form at the beginning of this year has been solid enough but he is still waiting for his first ATP Tour triumph. A win here would put him into the quarter-finals which would represent success in a masters 1000 event.
Emil Ruusuvuori
Emil Ruusuvuori arguably has more raw talent than his Dutch opponent but he is still figuring out how to put it all together. He has been at his explosive best so far in Miami and it is a tournament he clearly enjoys as this is his second time in the fourth round here. A win here would mean that he gets to play in a masters quarter-final for the first time which could do wonders for his confidence going forward.
