The 2023 Miami Open draw sees the world number 31 Bianca Andreescu face the world number 164 Sofia Kenin in a round 3 clash that promises to be a close battle. The winner will certainly jump up the rankings significantly, so there is a lot at stake for both ladies.

Bianca Andreescu vs Sofia Kenin – Match Predictions
Contents
Although we are expecting a close battle Andreescu’s superior groundstrokes and much better psychological resilience should give her the edge. It seems most bookies agree with us and favour the Canadian against the American.
Andreescu to Win
We believe that after 2 tough wins to reach that far Andreescu will only get hungrier and we back her to win this match. Fresh off her unexpected success against the world number 10 Sakkari Andreescu will be in a buoyant mood and we think she has far too many weapons for Kenin to stand a chance.
Kenin has played more than 3 matches in the same tournament only once in the last 6 months and even near the end of her round 2 match she has started to show signs of fatigue. Clearly, this will play to her disadvantage now.
Set 1 After 2 Games 1-1
No matter what transpires in terms of an overall winner we believe the match will be close. Both women know the importance of avoiding early breaks and that’s why our expectation is that after just 2 games the result will be 1-1.
Bianca Andreescu vs Sofia Kenin Preview
Now a closer look at the two players’ individual results in recent months.
Bianca Andreescu
Andreescu has had a mediocre 2023 so far. She exited the Australian Open in round 2 and her only deep run in a tournament so far was during Thailand’s WTA250 where she reached the semifinals before having to retire injured.
Still, Andreescu likes hard courts and the fact that she managed to play a steady number of tournaments over the last 3 months mean that she is starting to rediscover her best form and shape.
She seems to be back in top shape based on her 2 wins in Miami so far. Despite needing 3 sets both times she did well to eliminate first the British number 1 Raducanu and in the last round the world number 10 Maria Sakkari.
Sofia Kenin
Once a top 20 player Kenin has never rediscovered her form properly after an injury-ravaged 2020. Despite being fit for over a year now Kenin is still outside the world’s top 150 and only once in the last 6 months she recorded more than 2 wins in the same tournament.
Kenin didn’t drop a set in the first 2 rounds. However, both Maria and Kalinina were lower-ranked players than Andreescu and the American has beaten only 1 top-40 player in the last 12 months.
Bianca Andreescu vs Sofia Kenin Head to Head
Andreescu leads the H2H 3-1, but the two haven’t met since 2019. After exchanging a win each in 2017 and 2019 Andreescu went on to record 2 clean wins in their last 2 matchups, both again played in 2019. One of those wins was a 6-3, 6-3 triumph during the 2019 Miami Open.
