Dick was a highly recruited shooter coming out of high school, winning the Gatorade National Player of the Year as a senior at Sunrise Christian Academy, which also produced another great shooter, Buddy Hield. Knowing how important outside shooting is in today’s game, Dick will hear his name being called early in the draft. Great thing about him is that teams already know what they can and cannot expect of him.
Gradey Dick Strengths
Gradey Dick is the best shooter in the 2023 NBA Draft class. Knowing how important outside shooting is in today’s NBA, Dick will have a major impact on any team that will select him. Being over 40.3% from deep sounds very reliable, even more if we take into consideration that he was a high-volume shooter for the Jayhawks, having 5.7 three-point attempts per game. He wasn’t that often at the free throw line, but when he did, he made 85.4% of his attempts. Despite being only 19 years old, Dick showed maturity in his game, making quick and right decisions on both ends of the floor. His confidence is on a very high level, and he does not hesitate to shoot from deep whenever he recognizes an opportunity.
Gradey Dick Weaknesses
The biggest obstacle young college players face when they get to the NBA is on the defensive end. Dick still does not have an NBA-ready body, and his potential of building one is questionable. He will have a problem staying in front of players his size in the NBA, especially if he ends up playing the small forward position. Rebounding may be another issue early on, as Dick lacks athleticism, and he may get exposed early on in his rookie season. He also finds himself caught up in screens and will be a weak defender anytime he gets in front of a quick player in open space.
Gradey Dick Projection
Many are projecting Dick as a late lottery pick, and he will probably end somewhere between 13 and 16 spot in the 2023 NBA Draft. The Toronto Raptors have the 13th pick, and new head coach Darko Rajakovic could use a good shooter, especially now that Fred VanVleet has opted out of his contract. Also, the Utah Jazz, who have the 9th and the 16th overall picks, can use the latter one to select Dick.
