Manchester City Transfer News: Swap deal proposed to PSG

Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, arguably the two biggest clubs in European football, at least on financial terms, could potentially be involved in a mega transfer swap deal this summer. PSG have highlighted a Man City player they desire, whilst the Premier League champions would like a certain player from the French club in return.

RMC Sport understands that PSG are very much interested in snapping up Bernardo Silva from the treble winners, but with the asking price too high, a series of players have been offered as part of the deal to help reduce the fee. Manchester City however have eyes on one player that PSG are not willing to part way with.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola does not want to lose Silva, a Portuguese international, from his squad, but he has been linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium for a few seasons now. The club have slapped a £70million price on his head, and whilst PSG remain keen, it would appear not at that price.

Dialogue between the two powerhouse clubs have been continuing, and whilst players were offered, Guardiola has his eye on one 17-year-old sensation currently at the Ligue 1 club. Warren Zaïre-Emery has gradually formed into an important player and is very much seen as one of the top prospects in the game. PSG however simply do not want to let him go.

It therefore places the whole deal involving Silva into some kind of limbo, but with Manchester City not actively looking to push him out of the door, the ball is in the court of PSG regards to what they do next. Silva remains very popular in the City squad, with Jack Grealish a particular fan of his, this Sport Bible article proves.

Silva, who turns 29 in August, has been with Manchester City since joining in 2017 from Monaco. He has since made over 200 appearances for the club, winning five Premier League titles, four EFL Cup’s, two FA Cup’s and that precious UEFA Champions League crown in Istanbul recently.

As for Zaïre-Emery, he has just enjoyed his breakthrough season in senior football and already many of the top scouts across the game are keeping a close eye on him. He has already demonstrated his versatility by ending last season playing a lot at wing back, despite being a natural central midfield player by trade.

Losing a top player would not be a good look for PSG, who could experience something of an exodus this summer. Sergio Ramos and Lionel Messi have already moved on, whilst the future of Kylian Mbappe remains a huge talking point, with every possible outcome not ruled out at this stage.

Manchester City: Will Bernardo Silva stay?

The fact he keeps being linked with a move away is surely a concern, but the fact of the matter is the club want him to stay. Now, if the player himself wishes to move on, much like the İlkay Gündoğan situation, then that would be a different matter.

Manchester City have set out their stance, and said they would only allow him to go if Warren Zaïre-Emery can arrive in the opposite direction. PSG don’t wish to entertain this, meaning this possible deal could be over before it has even really begun.
